This summer, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps will dive out of retirement to compete against his fiercest opponent yet: a great white shark. After beating the best human swimmers in the world, and winning 23 Olympic gold medals along the way, the athlete will race a real-life Jaws during Discovery Channel’s popular “Shark Week” programming. Ahead of the aquatic showdown, Michael seems to be getting lots of love and encouragement from his number one fan – his son Boomer!

On Saturday, the 31-year-old record-breaker shared an adorable pic of him spending quality time with his little cutie over Father’s Day weekend. In a photo posted to Michael’s Instagram, the duo is seen lounging on a comfy couch watching TV. Boomer has a huge smile spread arcoss his face as he cuddles with his dad. Along with the snap, Michael proudly wrote: “@boomerphelps and I hanging out today watching some amazing golf!! #usopen.”

Michael got some virtual love back from his son, who has his own Instagram account, most likely run by the swimmer and his wife Nicole Phelps. A series of adorable photos were posted to the page, which has 787k plus followers, over the holiday weekend to honor the Olympian. The first shows Michael lovingly holding his son, who looks at the camera with a gigantic grin. The caption simply states: “Daddy Day!!!” Another touching photo displays Boomer’s tiny hand over Michael’s.
The last of the three captures a charming father-son moment between Boomer and Michael, as they play video games on the couch. From Boomer’s point-of-view, the caption reads: “I have the BEST dad ever!! I Love being able to sit and hang with him!!Even if it's when I'm beating him in some games!! #lookdadiwin #happyfathersday.”

It seems Michael has been enjoying his retirement with his family. However, the world-renowned athlete will soon dive back into the water to race a great white. A statement released by Discovery Channel teased: “They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: Sharks. He is our greatest champion to ever get in the water. But he has one competition left to win.”

The highly-anticipated race, which Discovery is calling “an event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before,” is set to kickoff “Shark Week,” swimming onto TV sets July 23 at 8 p.m. Michael seemed to shared his excitement for the challenge with a post on Instagram. Along with an eerie photo of a great white shark skimming the surface of what appears to be the ocean, Michael wrote: “I was able to do something that I had always wanted to do. Be in a cage and dive with great White sharks!! #bucketlist.”
