Al Pacino, 82, and his girlfriend Noor Alfallah, 29, are expecting a baby together, who will be Al's fourth child. Robert De Niro recently revealed that, aged 79, he has become a dad for the seventh time. And although these actors are a half-century older than the average new parent, they're certainly not the only Hollywood stars to become fathers later in life.
Another veteran dad is Billy Joel, the Piano Man singer, who has three daughters: 37-year-old Alexa Ray, his child with his second wife Christie Brinkley, is a full two decades older than Della Rose and Remy Anne, his kids with his current spouse Alexis Roderick. The world-famous performer, now 74, is still a hands-on parent, for example taking the tots to school, even if he is sometimes mistaken for their grandad. While Billy has spoken of his surprise at becoming a father again in his sixties, he says that it has brought him a lot of happiness and he credits his little ones with keeping him young.

The Grammy winner shared a sweet message on Instagram when Della Rose celebrated her sixth birthday in 2021. Alongside an adorable carousel of photos Billy wrote: “Happy 6th Birthday Della Rose! ... it reminds us of how grateful we are to have you in our lives. You and your sister have been our quarantine entertainment. There are no other people we would want to be stuck with at home!!! We love you more every day and year.”
Hugh Grant, the Notting Hill heartthrob, also counts his blessings every day for his healthy young family. The father-of-five, whose kids' ages range from 12 to five , admits that parenting at his age – 62 – isn't easy. But he says he couldn’t imagine a life without his children. The British leading man, who has two children with his ex-girlfriend Tinglan Hong and three with his wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein, loves nothing more than goofing around with his little ones, following his mother’s example. He told the Radio Times in 2020 that: “As children, she was quite silly with us with lots of silly voices. I do that with my children, but I’m not sure they enjoy it. They roll their eyes half the time.”
Hugh's experience will chime with his fellow celebrities, because it seems that parenthood is a great leveller. Speaking of his latest arrival, Robert De Niro tells ET Canada: “I don’t think I’ve ever been a cool father. I’m OK. My kids disagree with me at times, they’re respectful. My daughter is 11 and she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her and adore her,” adding that “With my youngest now there will be more to come but that’s, you know – that's what it is.”
