Shakira made quite the splash at this year's Formula One Grand Prix in Barcelona, where the pop diva was said to be the guest of race car driver Lewis Hamilton. As rumours of a possible liaison with Lewis gather momentum, here's a look at the life of the British speed star.
Born on 7 January 1985 in Stevenage in the south of England, Lewis is of mixed race. After his parents separated he lived first with his mother Carmen and then, from the age of 12, with his father Anthony, who became his manager.

Lewis knew from very early on that he wanted to drive competitively. At nine he set himself on a path to Formula 1 when, having won a British karting championship, he introduced himself to McLaren team boss Ron Dennis at an award ceremony, saying he wanted to drive for his team one day.
Apparently Dennis wrote in Lewis’s autograph book: “Phone me in nine years, we’ll sort something out then.” In fact, he was officially signed to the McLaren Driver Development Support programme at just 13, the youngest driver to have been contracted by an F1 team.
He started racing in Formula 1 when he was 22 and in 2008, became the youngest F1 champion in history. After five years Lewis switched from McLaren to Mercedes and he has been with the team ever since, winning multiple titles, thanks to his excellent judgement on the track. Knighted in 2021 for his achievements, he can now use the title Sir.
Off the track, Lewis is known for his sense of style, his love of animals - he is a vegan - and his charity work. He dated Pussycat Doll singer Nicole Scherzinger for eight years on and off from 2007 to 2015, and has been linked to a string of high-profile women, many of them in showbusiness, including Rita Ora, Kendall Jenner, Sofia Richie and Nicki Minaj. So, as the latest lady to be seen with him, Shakira is in great company.
