As a born and raised Namibian, former Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo Levine knows the beauty that African wildlife brings to the world. That’s why she’s passionate about protecting the last remaining population of wild black rhinos in her role as global ambassador for Save The Rhino Trust Namibia.

“Growing up, I would spend so much time watching animals, particularly black rhinos, outside. It was impactful to watch how they interacted with one another peacefully,” she told HELLO! as she launched her first swimwear collaboration with Reina Olga, profits from which went to the campaign.

“Now, many Namibian children have never even seen black rhinos. That kills me. Being a part of this group that actively stops poachers (1) and preserves the lives of these beautiful animals is really moving. I’m so proud of the work we’ve done and vow (2) to continue to do.” Here, the 33-year-old mum to Dusty Rose, four, and three-year-old Gio Grace with her husband, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, tells us more about her work…

Behati, what made you want to work with Reina Olga?

“I’ve always been a big fan of Reina Olga for its fun approach to design. The bright colours and patterns, sexy silhouettes and daring-yet-wearable designs embody everything I love about swimwear.”

What’s your go-to swimwear shape?

“I love underwire bikinis, but I have a hard time finding a small enough cup for me that’s flattering (3) and fits perfectly. What I love about Reina Olga is that they make underwire that fits all sizes. A classic triangle is also one of my favourites.”

You’re using the collection to help the Save The Rhino Trust…

“Animal conservation has always been a passion of mine, so partnering with Save The Rhino Trust was a very easy decision. It’s so important to me to use my platform to spread information about causes I care about, especially in my country. I care deeply about the plight (4) of endangered black rhinos in Namibia.”

How would you describe your style?

“Rocker chic with a hint of outer-worldliness. A hippie dress while barefoot is my go-to these days. I love to have fun with my clothes when I get dressed every day.”

Your tattoos are on display in the campaign. Do you have one that means more to you than the others?

“They all mean something to me and some are personal, but Adam and I both have the ‘You’re so cool’ quote, which is from our favourite movie, True Romance. Also, the girls’ names mean a lot and the rhino on my arm reminds me of the responsibility we as humans have to protect our planet. “They are all part of my life’s journey and contain a little piece of my soul and history.”

Adam reportedly wants five children. Will you have more?

“Never say never! We definitely want more kids. Who knows how many we will be blessed with?”

What is it that you enjoy most about being a mother?

“It’s so rewarding to watch my girls learn and develop into kind and caring women. Seeing the world through children’s eyes again is so magical. They are so young but they already amaze me. Also, I love having two built-in best friends. As an only child, I’ve always wanted a lot of kids, to experience what I never had. That said, being an only child was epic in its own way.”

How do you like to stay active?

“I love yoga. In addition to keeping me in shape, it also helps me feel clear mentally. During the pandemic, I practised daily and it definitely helped me feel my best both spiritually and physically. “I just got back into Pilates, too, and [Adam’s personal trainer] Austin Pohlen also kicks my ass (5) – when I let him.”
