Sofia Carson is a successful Latina actress who got her start guest starring on the Disney Channel series, ‘Austin and Ally’ in 2015. The actress was born, Sofia Daccarett Char, in Florida to Colombian parents in April 1993. The 28-year-old chose her stage name “Carson” in honor of her grandmother’s last name.
Throughout her youth, Carson studied dance and eventually went on to attend UCLA where she majored in communication with a French minor. The 28-year-old’s big acting break was when she guest starred on ‘Austin and Ally’ which led her to be casted as a recurring character on MTV’s ‘Faking It.’ Not long after that, Carson starred in the Disney Channel movie and its sequel, ‘Descendants’ and ‘Descendants 2,’ which earned her a Imagen Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Carson kept with the Disney Channel family as she was then casted in the film, ‘A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits’ in 2016. She then went on to star in more TV roles that led her to be nominated for a Teen Choice Award and then a Netflix film in 2020 titled, ‘Feel the Beat.’ Most recently, the 28-year-old will voice Pipp Petals in ‘My Little Pony: A New Generation,’ which will be released in September of this year.
Not only is Carson very involved in the acting world but she has also been named the first Global Ambassador of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation. Her work with them includes promoting and raising awareness of the foundation‘s programs. In addition to the GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, she was also named a UNICEF ambassador in late 2020.
