Eiza González's body transformation for 'Iron Jane' is unlike anything she's done before

Eiza González is not afraid to challenge herself. The Mexican actress has achieved many things throughout her career, pushing her skills in the realm of action, science fiction, drama, and more. Now, she's taking on her most physically demanding role yet: a competitive bodybuilder.

González will star in "Iron Jane," playing Janie John, a woman who turns to bodybuilding after experiencing a childhood of neglect. "Female bodybuilding offers her something she’s never had: the chance to become untouchable," reads the project's official synopsis. Her character reportedly goes through an "extreme transformation," a challenge that González fully embraced.

In photos shared on her Instagram, González showcased her changing body, showing a photo of her ripped back, toned biceps, triceps, and muscles. "IRON JANE," González captioned the post. "Welcome to the world of body building. So proud to tell Jane’s story and this journey is one very special to me."

Numerous friends and celebrities encouraged her in the comments, with Priyanka Chopra adding a heart eyes and a shocked expression emoji. "Wow!! That is WORK! You did that!" wrote Melissa Fumero. 

Over the years, González has been open about her experiences with eating disorders. In a recent post shared on social media, she discussed a new role that demanded change from her body, likely referring to "Iron Jane." “As I begin a new journey with my body for work, it feels like an important moment to acknowledge how much of a rollercoaster it can be to feel unsafe in your own skin,” reads her caption. “Most of my life my relationship with my body has been complicated.”

“It began at a young age, after my father's sudden death, when I coped with depression by eating compulsively—trying to soothe pain I hadn't processed. By 13, I had gained 30 pounds almost overnight, navigating grief, puberty, and confusion all at once.”

She explained that her relationship with her body devolved, with her becoming obsessed with her weight. Nowadays, González reaffirms her commitment to nurturing her body, "fueling it with kindness."

“I'm proud of where I am and of the hard work it's taken to break old patterns," she concluded. "I hope anyone reading this knows that choosing yourself and honoring your body for the right reasons is far more meaningful than trying to be liked by others even ourselves sometimes. I don't like to pretend the journey is over, it's hard, complex. But NEVER too late.”

"Iron Jane" will explore her character's descent into the bodybuilding world, ultimately teasing a fracture with reality.  “As her physique sharpens, Janie rises fast, but her grip on reality fractures. Trapped in a system that rewards perfection and punishes weakness, Janie spirals toward a godlike ideal that's slowly destroying her from within.”

The cast is rounded out by Brandon Sklenar, who plays her trainer. The film is written and directed by Lissette Feliciano. 

“Iron Jane is a story about discovering that true strength is often found in surrender,” Feliciano said in an interview with Variety. “Eiza brings a physical and emotional commitment, bravery, and collaborative spirit to the role that fully realizes the character I imagined on the page.”
