After more than three years away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Chris Pratt has delivered the update Guardians of the Galaxy fans have been waiting for. The 47-year-old actor confirmed that he will reprise his role as Peter Quill, better known as Star-Lord, and revealed that discussions with Marvel Studios executives have progressed beyond simply talking about the possibility.

During a recent appearance on The Playlist's The Bingeworthy podcast, Pratt shared that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and co-president Louis D'Esposito are involved in plans for his character's future.

The revelation comes as Marvel prepares for its next major superhero crossover, Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.

Chris Pratt Confirms Marvel Has Taken Action to Bring Back Star-Lord

Speaking with The Playlist's Mike DeAngelo on The Bingeworthy podcast, Pratt addressed the uncertainty surrounding his return to the franchise.

The actor explained that he has maintained a positive working relationship with Marvel's leadership and that plans to revisit Peter Quill are moving forward. "I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D'Esposito]," Pratt said.

He also revealed that the studio has taken "hard action" to make his return happen. Pratt then delivered the confirmation fans had been hoping to hear. "So yeah, you'll see Star-Lord again," he said. However, the actor stopped short of revealing a specific project or release date, adding that "he's not going anywhere."

The comments, first reported by The Playlist, are among Pratt's clearest statements yet about his future with Marvel.

Chris Pratt's Star-Lord Return Is a Big Deal for Marvel Fans

Pratt first introduced audiences to Peter Quill in the 2014 blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. Directed by James Gunn, the movie followed a group of unlikely heroes who joined forces to protect the galaxy.

Pratt's portrayal of the sarcastic, music-loving Star-Lord quickly became one of the franchise's defining performances. His character combined comedy, action and emotional storytelling, helping transform the Guardians from relatively unfamiliar comic book characters into major Marvel favorites.

Over the years, Pratt reprised the role in six Marvel films, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

His most recent appearance came in 2023, when the third Guardians movie brought the original team's journey to an emotional conclusion. But Marvel left one important detail unresolved.

Did Chris Pratt Already Pitch His Next Marvel Movie?

Interestingly, Pratt has not simply been waiting for Marvel to contact him. Earlier in 2026, the actor revealed that he had already pitched an idea for Star-Lord's future to Marvel Studios.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Pratt expressed enthusiasm about continuing his relationship with the franchise. "I'm happy to do anything they want me to do and will," he said.

The actor also revealed that he has a clear vision for what should happen next. "I personally have a really strong vision of what I would want him to do," Pratt explained.

When asked whether he had already presented his idea to Kevin Feige, Pratt confirmed that he had. He also expressed interest in helping shape Marvel's next decade of storytelling.

Although the actor has not disclosed the details of his proposal, his comments suggest he wants Peter Quill's return to serve a meaningful purpose within the expanding MCU.
