Dalia Bucaram has officially entered to the Miss Universe family. The 21-year-old psychology student and Guayaquil representative was crowned Miss Universo Ecuador 2026 on Saturday, August 15, earning the opportunity to represent Ecuador on the international stage later this year.
Bucaram claimed the national crown during the Miss Universo Ecuador 2026 final at the Plazoleta Vicente Rocafuerte in Santa Elena. She competed against a field of 25 contestants before advancing through the competition and ultimately taking the title.
She succeeds Nadia Mejía, Miss Universo Ecuador 2025, who crowned her successor during the finale. Miss Universe 2025 Fátima Bosch was also present and helped place the winner's sash on Bucaram.
Now, attention turns to what comes next, which is representing Ecuador at the 75th Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico on November 24, 2026.
Who is Dalia Bucaram, Miss Universo Ecuador 2026?
Dalia Estefanía Bucaram Pazmiño was born in Guayaquil on June 26, 2005. At 21, she is currently studying psychology at the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo, known as UEES.
She is the daughter of lawyer Dalo Bucaram Pulley and Ecuadorian television presenter Gabriela Pazmiño Pino. She is the oldest of four siblings, and her paternal grandfather is former Ecuadorian president Abdalá Bucaram Ortiz.
While her well-known family name has inevitably brought additional attention to her Miss Universo Ecuador journey, Bucaram has been developing a platform centered heavily on psychology, emotional well-being and young people.
That focus could become an important part of her identity as she prepares for Miss Universe.
Dalia Bucaram's mental health project, Vita Nova
Bucaram's psychology studies connect closely with her social initiative, Vita Nova, a project focused on psychological assistance.
According to El Universo, the initiative seeks to promote the creation of a professional psychological assistance center that would use brain-mapping methods to help identify neurological changes associated with depression. The proposed project also includes support for people affected neurologically following psychiatric treatments and preventive efforts involving children who have experienced abuse.
Mental health has continued to emerge as one of the defining themes of Bucaram's public platform. During her first television interview following her win, she discussed the emotional demands of competing and revealed that the pressure became particularly difficult immediately before the finale. She described struggling with nerves and self-criticism and said writing helped her process those emotions.
How Dalia Bucaram prepared for Miss Universo Ecuador
Winning the crown came after an intensive preparation process. Bucaram told Ecuavisa that she traveled to Venezuela for specialized training that included verbal and nonverbal communication. Her schedule there was heavily focused on pageant preparation rather than sightseeing or leisure activities.
Her background also extends beyond traditional pageant training. According to El Universo, Bucaram has trained in the gym for more than five years and has participated in activities including ballet, soccer, tap dance, flamenco, volleyball, karate, singing and painting.
That varied experience could prove useful as she moves from a national competition into an international event where contestants are evaluated across interviews, stage presentations and other appearances.
Dalia Bucaram collected several awards before winning
Bucaram's victory was not her only recognition during the Miss Universo Ecuador 2026 competition. Before the final result was announced, the Guayaquil contestant received three additional distinctions: Miss Cielo, Mejor Piel and Silueta Medisbeltic. She later advanced into the Top 15 and Top 10 before reaching the final three contestants.
The final Top 3 consisted of Bucaram representing Guayaquil, Valentina Brito representing Galápagos and Francesca Piza representing Portoviejo. Bucaram ultimately took the crown, while Brito finished as first runner-up and Piza placed third.
Dalia Bucaram is now headed to Miss Universe 2026
Winning Miss Universo Ecuador means Bucaram's preparation is far from finished. She will represent Ecuador at Miss Universe 2026 in Puerto Rico on November 24, giving her only a few months to transition from the national competition to one of the world's most closely followed international pageants.
Her preparation is expected to build on the communication, stage and personal-development training she completed before winning the Ecuadorian title. For Bucaram, however, the international competition also provides a significantly larger platform for her work surrounding mental health and young people.
At 21, she enters the next stage of competition as a university student whose academic interests are directly connected to the cause she wants to promote.
For now, her August 15 victory has officially made her Ecuador's next Miss Universe representative. And with the national crown secured, Dalia Bucaram's biggest pageant challenge is only beginning.
The 75th Miss Universe competition is scheduled for November 24, 2026, in Puerto Rico, where Dalia Bucaram will represent Ecuador.
