The circumstances surrounding Kurt Cobain's death are back in the spotlight. According to a new and unofficial report, a private investigator believes there's more going on with Cobain's death, which took place in April of 1994 and was ruled a suicide.
© Jeff KravitzThe news of the report was shared on The Daily Mail. The outlet claims that Michelle Wilkins, an independent journalist involved in the investigation conducted by forensic scientists, spoke to one of the researchers, relaying the information.
"This is a homicide. We've got to do something about this," said the researcher, per Wilkins.
She claims the investigative team arrived at this conclusion after studying Cobain's autopsy reports, which found irregularities related to the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
© FilmMagic, IncAccording to the report, there's evidence to support the fact that Cobain was attacked. One theory is that intruders could have forced an overdose on Cobain, leaving him incapacitated. Investigators allege that he was shot, with the intruders planting a suicide note.
"There are things in the autopsy that go, well, wait, this person didn't die very quickly of a gunshot blast," said Wilkins. "The necrosis of the brain and liver happens in an overdose. It doesn't happen in a shotgun death."
These findings and statements contradict the official accounts of Cobain's death. The Daily Mail reached out to the Medical Examiner's Office and the Seattle Police Department.
© Getty Images"Our office is always open to revisiting its conclusions if new evidence comes to light, but we’ve seen nothing to date that would warrant re-opening of this case and our previous determination of death," said Seattle Police.
"Our detective concluded that he died by suicide, and this continues to be the position held by this department," they continued. Unless more evidence is presented, the case won't be reopened.

Kurt Cobain is one of the biggest grunge and rock icons, capturing the attitude of a generation with his work in Nirvana. He was open about his health struggles all through his life, discussing many stomach issues and addictions. His friends and loved ones were also open about the toll that fame took on him.
Months before his death, Cobain had been struggling with his mental health and his addictions, having problems with his wife, rock star Courtney Love. He also survived a suicide attempt in Rome. He's survived by his daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, and Love.
