Shakira and Gerard Piqué are back in court over the arrangements involving their two sons, Milan and Sasha, with the Colombian superstar asking a judge to change how the children travel between Miami and Barcelona to spend time with their father.
The former couple appeared at Barcelona’s City of Justice on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as part of proceedings concerning the visitation agreement for their sons, now 13 and 11. Shakira and Piqué previously reached a custody agreement following their 2022 separation, but the singer is now seeking a modification focused specifically on the children’s international travel.
According to a statement from Shakira’s representatives obtained by Spanish media, the singer is not asking the court to limit the amount of time Milan and Sasha spend with Piqué. Instead, she wants the responsibility of traveling between Spain and the United States to be shared more evenly. “The objective is that the effort of traveling between Miami and Barcelona does not fall solely on them,” her representatives said, according to the statement reported by Spanish media.
What Shakira Is Asking the Judge to Change
At the center of Shakira’s request is a practical issue created by the roughly transatlantic distance between Miami, where the boys live with their mother, and Barcelona, where Piqué is based.
For shorter school vacations, Shakira is asking Piqué to travel to Miami to see Milan and Sasha rather than requiring the children to fly to Barcelona.
Her representatives said the proposal would mean that during brief vacation periods, “the father would travel to Miami.” The intention is to prevent the boys from making short transatlantic trips that involve significant time changes and disrupt their routines.
Shakira’s team argues that changing the travel arrangement would allow the children to maintain their school, social, and family schedules for longer periods.
According to the statement, the proposed change is a way of protecting the boys’ “emotional, physical and academic well-being.”
Shakira Says She Is Not Trying to Reduce Piqué’s Time With His Sons
Shakira’s representatives directly addressed the possibility that her court request could be interpreted as an attempt to restrict the former FC Barcelona star’s relationship with Milan and Sasha.
The statement says it is not Shakira’s intention to “reduce the time that the children spend with their father.” Instead, she wants the travel burden between Miami and Barcelona to be shared rather than placed primarily on the children.
The singer’s request therefore appears focused on the logistics surrounding the existing visitation arrangement, particularly during shorter breaks when traveling from Florida to Spain and back can consume a substantial part of the children’s available time away from school.
Spanish reports say both Shakira and Piqué personally attended the proceedings in Barcelona rather than leaving the matter entirely to their lawyers.
Shakira and Piqué’s 2022 Custody Agreement
The latest proceedings come nearly four years after Shakira and Piqué formalized their agreement concerning Milan and Sasha.
In December 2022, the former couple appeared before Barcelona’s Family Court No. 18 to ratify an agreement that allowed Shakira to relocate to Miami with the children. The arrangement followed the couple’s highly publicized separation earlier that year.
At the time, the former couple said they had reached “an agreement that guarantees the well-being of our children.”
Shakira subsequently moved to Miami with Milan and Sasha in April 2023, beginning a new chapter for the family after years of living in Barcelona. Piqué remained based in Spain.
The distance between the two cities has inevitably made the logistics of maintaining the boys’ relationship with both parents more complicated, particularly around school calendars and shorter holidays. The latest request seeks to revisit one part of those arrangements rather than overturn the broader custody agreement.
Protecting Milan and Sasha’s Privacy Remains a Priority
There is another familiar element in Shakira’s latest position, and it is privacy.
Her representatives concluded their statement by asking that Milan and Sasha’s privacy be preserved and respected while the court proceedings continue.
It is an issue Shakira has addressed publicly before.
Shortly after moving to Miami in 2023, the singer made an unusually direct appeal to journalists and photographers to give her sons space after the intense media attention surrounding her separation from Piqué. “Please respect their right to privacy,” Shakira asked at the time, while describing herself not simply as an artist but as a mother seeking to protect her children’s psychological and emotional well-being.
