Lourdes 'Lola' Leon is giving fans another glimpse into one of the most personal collaborations of her career.
Ahead of the July 3 release of Madonna's highly anticipated 'Confessions II,' the 29-year-old model and musician shared a touching teaser for the song 'The Test' on Instagram, posting what appears to be a childhood photo of herself holding hands with her famous mom alongside a selection of heartfelt lyrics.
The nostalgic image immediately caught fans' attention, with many interpreting it as a reflection on the pair's evolving relationship.
In the caption, Lourdes wrote:
"The Test" — on Confessions II out July 3.
She then shared lyrics from the track, including:
"A hand tenderly reaching to me
You are my reason to be
What I want, or look like
What I wear
all the clothes on my back..."
The song continues with references to identity, growth, and finding one's own path, ending with the lines:
"I know they tried to put us to the test
I'm not so different time is knocking on my doorstep
You show me your razor sharp laser vision
Real brave will make you feel kind of different."
The song carries special meaning for Madonna and Lourdes:
The preview comes just days after Madonna revealed that collaborating with Lourdes wasn't simply about making music.
In a recent interview promoting 'Confessions II,' the Queen of Pop shared that it was actually Lourdes who approached her with the idea of writing together as a way to repair and strengthen their relationship.
"The song I wrote with my daughter, Lola. She approached me about writing a song together as a way to heal our relationship," Madonna explained to People, describing the collaboration as a deeply emotional experience that ultimately helped shape the direction of the album.
Madonna also praised her daughter's artistic abilities, saying Lourdes has long wanted to build a career on her own terms rather than be viewed as someone benefiting from her famous last name.
Lourdes has always been candid about forging her own identity:
Lourdes has never hidden the fact that growing up with one of the world's biggest pop stars came with its own challenges.
In previous interviews, she explained that although she recognizes the privilege she grew up with, she has always worked to establish herself independently. She revealed that she paid for college herself and has been intentional about building a music and modeling career based on her own work rather than relying on Madonna's fame.
She has also previously described her mother as a strict parent whose discipline ultimately helped shape her work ethic, even as she worked to create her own identity outside of the Madonna legacy.
Now, with 'The Test,' the mother-daughter duo appears to be turning that shared history into music, offering fans one of the album's most intimate moments before 'Confessions II' arrives on July 3.
