Madonna is pulling all the stops with her new album launch. At Tribeca Festival, Madonna did an early premiere of "Confessions II," the music short film that accompanies her upcoming album of the same name. The film features the five opening songs of the record and is now available on YouTube, featuring cameos from some of the biggest, most emblematic, and freshest faces in the entertainment world. Also, her daughter, Lourdes Leon, has a key appearance, marking the first official collaboration between mother and daughter.
The 13-minute film quickly went viral, with Madonna performing for some cameras, as various stars and celebrities were featured. Some of the highlights include Kate Moss, Madonna's close friend Debi Mazar, and British actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Richard E. Grant, with all of them dancing and interacting with Madonna during the song "Danceteria," which references the '80s dance club in New York that played a key part of Madonna's life. "That time shaped my character,” she said, as reported by the New York Times. She revealed that she used to kiss Mazar, one of her oldest friends, to catch the attention of boys.
Sabrina Carpenter is also featured, performing her song with Madonna, which they debuted on Carpenter's headlining Coachella performance.
The clip also featured different exciting new stars, like Odessa A'zion, Arca, Shygirl, and Archie Madewke. Julia Garner, who's developed a close friendship with Madonna in recent years, is also featured. She's rumored to play Madonna in an upcoming biopic that remains in development. The two are seen in the film, paralleling each other right before Carpenter's introduction and their performance of "Bring Your Love."
Lourdes Leon's key appearance in the film
The film also reveals a second collaboration on the record, with Feid appearing to perform a bilingual song with Madonna.
Lastly, Lourdes Leon makes a key appearance, walking towards the camera while wearing a futuristic helmet. The short film concludes with her staring straight at the lens. "Cut, b**ch," she says. This marks their first official collaboration, with Leon also pursuing music and following in her mother's footsteps.
"Confessions II" was directed by Torso, the duo made up of David Toro and Solomon Chase. Madonna revealed that she's a big film lover, and that making a movie seemed like a more interesting idea than a music video. “It was good when it was just me and MTV,” she said of an earlier era of music.
