Medellín came to a standstill on Wednesday, April 30, with the world premiere of "Mañana fue muy bonito," Karol G's highly anticipated Netflix documentary, set to drop globally on May 8. The exclusive screening at the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín wasn't your average red-carpet affair. Select fans, close collaborators, and friends of the reggaeton superstar gathered inside, while thousands packed the streets outside, roaring with excitement for her first public appearance of 2025.

After wrapping up her epic "Mañana Será Bonito" world tour and laying low on a well-earned vacation, Karol's return was met with electric energy. One of the most talked-about moments in the documentary dives into her much-publicized (and long-rumored-to-be messy) breakup with Puerto Rican reggaetonero Anuel AA.

"I felt like I was dying"

Karol and Anuel's love story began in 2018, right after they teamed up on the track "Culpables." A year later, they confirmed their relationship. By April 2019, Karol walked the Latin Billboard Music Awards red carpet flashing a diamond ring, engagement confirmed.

Fast forward to 2021, and the couple was officially done. At the time, Anuel painted the split as amicable. But "Mañana fue muy bonito" suggests Karol has her side of the story, and it's far from sunshine and closure.

"In my last relationship, getting out was toxic," she confesses in the film. "I'd wake up feeling like I was going to die. I felt like I had no value, like I couldn't see my success, couldn't see my greatness. I felt like I was stuck in something I'd never be able to leave. It was a nightmare. It was hell."

Karol explained how that emotional wreckage fueled her music: "The only good thing that came out of it was that through my songs, I got to speak for a lot of people who don't know how to express what they're feeling."

And then there's the Feid

Post-breakup, Karol sparked a relationship with fellow Colombian singer Feid, and you better believe that stirred the pot. Fans of both artists clocked a series of subtle digs and lyrical shade between Feid and Anuel.

Anuel even dropped a not-so-subtle diss track in 2023 called "Mejor Que Yo," clearly aiming at Karol and her new beau. In response, Karol purged her socials, deleting every trace of Anuel from her pages.

Karol G also removed her tattoo that said Anuel's real name, and the Puerto Rican got rid of the tattoo he had from her on his back.

Evidently, the Colombian songstress was trying to erase any remnants of her past relationship. Karol G chose a striking knife motif, completely obliterating any trace of the former love that had adorned that part of her body.

In 2023, Anuel seemed to be finished sharing details about his relationship with Karol G. After a series of posts, songs, and an Instagram tag; he declared this his "last post" on the topic.

His Instagram post features him laughing and leaning against a motorcycle. In the caption, he celebrates the success of "Mejor que yo," a song he dedicated to Karol G, although it primarily addresses her new boyfriend, Feid. He mentions that some fans are eager for him to write more romantic songs, stating in Spanish: "I've dedicated romantic songs several times." He concludes with, "This is the last post where I talk about this subject, I love you all."

Throughout his U.S. tour, Anuel hinted at his relationship with Karol G, sharing photos of himself with a fan banner that reads "F*ck Ferxxo," the name of Feid's latest album. He also tagged Karol G in an Instagram post, which led her to delete her photos with him from her account.

During a concert, before performing "Secreto," the song they released to confirm their relationship, Anuel said, "I don't think you deleted those pictures. I think it was your jealous boyfriend."

In a 2023 interview with El Pais, Karol G opened up about her breakup with Anuel in early 2021 amid the pandemic. The couple was engaged, and the split affected Karol G deeply, causing her to doubt herself and her work. "At one point, I didn't want anything. Love can make you feel like the happiest person in the world, but heartbreak can destroy your life."

"If you're not strong enough, heartbreak can confuse you so much that it can tear apart your career, personality, and self-esteem. That happened to me."

Karol G's music broke records following the release of her last album

Karol G, whose full name is Carolina Giraldo Navarro, shared that social media exacerbated her heartbreak. "It was horrible," she said. "My previous record, 'KG0516,' was a huge success, but I didn't want to celebrate it. I didn't like what I was doing, and I didn't like what I was seeing. I was vulnerable, and the cyberattacks from people got worse."
