This year's Cannes Film Festival is right around the corner. Hosted in Cannes, France, the event originated in 1946 and has grown into the most prestigious film festival in the world, known for its impeccable dress code and being the stage for some of the year's best films. Over the past few years, Cannes has also become a great predictor of Academy Award acclaim, with the festival winners usually faring well come Oscars night. 

Here's all you should know about this year's edition of the festival:

When is it?

The 2025 Cannes Film Festival begins this May 13 and will conclude on May 24. This marks the 78th edition of the festival. 

Who's a part of the jury?

The jury will be chaired by the French actress Juliette Binoche. She'll be joined by Halle Berry, Payal Kapadia, Alba Rohrwacher, Leila Slimani, Jeremy Strong, Carlos Reygadas, Dieudo Hamadi, and Hong Sangsoo.

Robert De Niro will be receiving this year's Cannes Recognition for Lifetime Achievement

Robert De Niro will be this year's recipient of the Honorary Palme d'Or for Lifetime Achievement, recognizing his singular career. De Niro will receive the recognition on the festival's opening night. 

The following day, he'll host a public masterclass, sharing some details of his craft.

Tom Cruise will present his "Mission Impossible" movie

Tom Cruise will be presenting his last "Mission Impossible" film. This marks Cruise's third Cannes' appearance, with him attending the 2022 festival to present his hit film "Top Gun: Maverick." 

Some movies to keep an eye out for

Splitsville

Adria Arjona, Kyle Marvin, and Dakota Johnson star in the film, following Arjona's character, who wants to get a divorce from her husband. In order to salvage his marriage, the husband turns to his friends for advice, with them suggesting an open marriage.

The History of Sound

Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor star in a romance trailing two men trying to record the lives and voices of people in New England during World War I.

Highest to Lowest

Spike Lee's new film reunites him with Denzel Washington, with the beloved actor playing a music mogul in New York who faces a big and important decision.
