Perez Hilton's family is sharing some encouraging news about his recovery, three months after the blogger's mental health crisis. In a new update posted on his website, his family revealed that he has entered another phase of treatment and has been able to spend more time with his three children.
According to the statement, Perez transitioned into a partial hospitalization program (PHP) in October while continuing to live in supportive housing. He is still receiving mental health care and support as he works toward recovery. "While it hasn't been easy, we're grateful to have some positive news to share about Perez's recovery," his family wrote.
One of the biggest developments has been the opportunity for Perez to reconnect with his loved ones. After previously having contact through video calls and supervised visits, he has now been able to spend time with his family during approved visits, recently celebrating his mother Teresita Lavandeira's 73rd birthday alongside his children. "These moments together have meant so much to everyone," the statement shared.
The family also offered a more personal look at what the past few months have taught them. "This entire experience has been a learning process for our family," they explained. "Like many people who have never been through something like this, we didn't fully understand just how much time, care, and support recovery from a serious mental health crisis can require."
They added that conversations with other families who have experienced similar situations helped them understand that getting through the initial crisis is only the beginning. "There's no one-size-fits-all timeline, and we're learning the importance of taking things one step at a time," they continued.
As for when Perez might return home, his family said they don't have a confirmed date just yet, although they remain hopeful that the day is getting closer, and made it clear that their priority is making sure he has the time and support necessary to heal.
As for his children, they said they are doing well and staying busy with school and their everyday routines. The family also shared that the kids had a happy Halloween, along with a photo of them dressed up as hospital staff and a witch.
"After everything they've been through, seeing them smiling, having fun, and simply enjoying being kids has been especially meaningful," the statement read.
Perez has been away from home since his medical and mental health crisis in August. Authorities responded to his South Florida home following an alarming TikTok livestream where he cut himself with a knife. He received medical treatment for injuries that included broken bones before transitioning into residential treatment.
Since then, his mother has been caring for his children. A judge granted Teresita temporary custody in August, with Perez agreeing to the arrangement.
