Last May, Vanessa Trump surprised everyone when she revealed her breast cancer diagnosis. The former daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump shared at the time that she had undergone a procedure and was working with her doctors on a treatment plan.
Throughout this difficult journey, the former model had the unconditional support of her family, as well as her boyfriend, Tiger Woods. So now, as she shares that she has beaten the disease, she chose to celebrate by her loved ones’ side, posting a beautiful photo with them.
On October 25, Vanessa posted a message on her Instagram account in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and revealed that she had a heartfelt conversation with her daughter Kai Trump and with Dr. Nicole Saphier “to share my breast cancer journey.” Days earlier, the young golfer had already hinted at the good news about her mother’s health.
“It was a long and challenging journey, and I am incredibly grateful for the love and support of the people who surrounded me along the way,” wrote Vanessa, who was married to Donald Trump Jr. “By sharing my story, I hope to encourage others to prioritize their health, schedule their screenings, and understand the importance of early detection,” she added. “If sharing my experience encourages one person to get checked, it’s worth it,” she said.
Vanessa shared several photos with the people who were her rock after her cancer diagnosis. She began with a photo of herself hugging Kai, her eldest daughter, who offered up her YouTube channel so her mom could share her story about living with the disease. Mother and daughter posed together again in a second shot, showing the special bond they share.
Vanessa then posted a meaningful group photo where she appears surrounded by some of the great loves of her life. On one side were her children Donald John Trump III, 19, and Kai, also 19, and on the other was Tiger. Behind them, a “congratulations” banner can be seen next to the bell cancer patients traditionally ring to mark the end of an important phase of their treatment.
Vanessa Trump reveals the first sign of her breast cancer
In her talk with her daughter Kai and Dr. Nicole Saphier, Vanessa Trump shared that extreme fatigue was the first sign of her “very invasive” breast cancer. She recalled that in the months before her diagnosis she felt “extremely tired,” even when it came to doing something as simple as going to Starbucks.
The mom of five, whose latest MRI has shown she is now cancer-free, explained that fatigue can be hard to recognize as a warning sign, because for a mother, being tired is “a normal symptom.” Vanessa shared that she underwent a lumpectomy, which the Mayo Clinic defines as surgery to remove a tumor and a small margin of healthy breast tissue, and she also had three sessions of radiation therapy. In addition, she said that going forward, she will have screenings three to four times a year over the next five to ten years.
