Perez Hilton is in the midst of a devastating health crisis. On August 4th, the gossip blogger was hospitalized after appearing on a live stream on TikTok, covered in blood. Days later, his mom, Teresita Lavandeira, has filed for temporary custody of Hilton's three kids.
The petition was filed three days after Hilton's hospitalization, on August 7th. Lavandeira's lawyer shared a statement explaining why she had filed the petition.
“My main concern and objective, as well as the family’s, is to protect the children and make sure they are safe," said the lawyer, as reported by PEOPLE.
“We want them to have some sense of normalcy as they begin their journey of healing after the tragic events that occurred last week."
Hilton is the father of three kids: Mario, Mia, and Mayte. He relocated to Florida earlier this year, where he reportedly lived with his kids and his mother, who helped him raise them.
In a statement, it was revealed that during Hilton's crisis, several of his relatives were in the home. They ensured the kids had left the property once they realized the episode Hilton was experiencing.
Hilton's long road to recovery
Over the past week, Hilton's family and representatives have shared updates on his health. In one of the most recent updates, shared on Perez Hilton's website, it was revealed that he is in "serious but stable" condition. He's expected to undergo surgery in the coming days.
Hilton is hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act, allowing for involuntary mental health evaluation under specific circumstances.
“His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements,” continued the statement. “The only statements regarding Perez that should be considered credible and authorized are those published directly on PerezHilton.com.”
The family has asked for privacy, especially for the sake of Hilton's children.
