The Office's Lucy Davis opens up about 'incurable' cancer diagnosis

Lucy Davis, the 53-year-old star of the British "The Office," has been diagnosed with cancer. In a statement on Instagram, Davis revealed she had stage four breast cancer, diagnosed as incurable.

In a video shared on Instagram, Davis is seen ringing a bell and reading from a sheet of paper. In the post's caption, she explains that she's been privately dealing with her cancer diagnosis and that she felt ready now to share the news with the world. 

"A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, which has metastasized to my bones. Specifically to my spine, right hip, and my ribs. The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo," she wrote. 

Davis shared that the lump she found on her breast was very small and that she considered not having it checked. "So I guess I’m saying don’t ignore anything - get everything checked out," she wrote.

She then opened up about some of the symptoms she's experienced and how challenging it's been. "As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can. I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there’s a lot I have learned from it, and I’m grateful for that," Davis wrote. 

"As some of you will know, the pain can really be something else. Standing and walking for too long a time can be hard, and I need to use a wheelchair sometimes (so if you see me toddling around in one, feel free to give me a push!)." 

She concluded the post by sharing that humor has been one of her primary tools when dealing with cancer, and that her family has supported her throughout, treating her as normally as possible. 

"For those of you on a similar journey to mine, I do wish you well," Davis continued. "Cancer asks a lot from us, physically and mentally. And we all get to do it however we choose. Much love to you all"

Davis' career in comedy

Davis most notorious work was in "The Office," where she played Dawn Tinsley, a woman dissatisfied with her career and romantic life. 

The series ran from 2001 to 2003 and was created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, becoming a huge hit and inspiring the US version led by Steve Carrell. 

She also starred in "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," "Wonder Woman," and more.
