In a video shared on her Instagram, Sanchez Bezos is seen diving into the ocean alongside a swimming partner. She's seen wearing the necessary protective gear and oxygen tanks to explore the underwater surface.

The clip shows her swimming towards a shark and, while keeping her distance, making a heart with her hands towards the camera. "I swam right up to a shark. And my first thought wasn’t fear. It was how do we protect you," Sanchez Bezos captioned the post.

"The ocean keeps our planet alive. It regulates our climate. It feeds billions of people. It’s home to species we haven’t even discovered yet. We know more about the surface of Mars than we do about the bottom of our own ocean. And yet we’ve explored less than 20% of it.On World Oceans Day I’m proud of the work we’re doing at @bezosearthfund to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030. Because what’s down there is worth fighting for."

The clip showed different statistics about the ocean, and the Bezos Earth Fund's work to preserve it and understand it better. "Only 10% of the ocean is protected today... The Bezos Earth Fund is working on increasing that number to 30% by 2030, because what happens beneath the surface affects us all," reads the text.

Lauren and Jeff Bezos' commitment to the environment

The Sanchez Bezos family has long been committed to the health of the planet, being involved with different missions that bet on the planet's longevity and health. The two began the Bezos Earth Fund in 2020, with the "belief that Earth is the best planet in this solar system," reads the fund's website.

"The initial $10 billion commitment will be dispersed to partners in countries and regions all around the globe to support the development of innovative solutions that help protect and restore the natural world so the planet remains a place we can—and want to—live on. We built a diverse team of experts to help us deliver on our mission."

This year, the Fund has discussed AI as a tool for helping scientists and researchers solve global warming and some of the most pressing issues plaguing the Earth. "Our AI Grand Challenge recipients really demonstrate that AI can be a powerful ally to help make the world a better place," said Sanchez Bezos in a chat published in May. "This isn’t abstract. These are real people in real ecosystems using these tools. And the speed is incredible - what used to take years now happens in months.
