Cooking for someone can be a love language, and for Dave Grohl, it's how he likes to reconnect with his family after being on tour. The Foo Fighters frontman shares Violet Maye, 20, Harper Willow, 17, and Ophelia Saint, 11, with his wife Jordyn Blum. He is also the father of a baby girl with a fan named Jennifer Young.
The Foo Fighters frontman's personal life was catapulted into the headlines in October 2024 after it was revealed that he fathered a secret love child. They went on to cancel a string of shows with the group not returning to the stage until April 2025 at Coachella. Now they're ready to hit the road again.
Grohl is months away from his Take Cover Tour 2026, which kicks off in August, and on “The Dish” podcast, released on Wednesday, he opened up about what life looks like when he’s not on stage, sharing that the first thing he does when he gets home from tour is: “The first thing I do when I come home from being on tour is I like to cook for the family.”
Whether it’s “making a roast over the weekend” or throwing together pasta, Dave said, “I usually bring the comfort… like, I’m home, and I bring the comfort to the kids.”
It’s a very domestic image, one that hits differently given everything that’s unfolded over the past year.
But fatherhood has always been tied to his life on the road. Touring, he says, isn’t what it used to be. “When we were young, we would go out for two and a half months… It’s not like that anymore.” Now, it’s shorter runs - “maybe 10 days, maybe two weeks”- followed by real time at home to “relax… recuperate… recharge the batteries.”
And back in the day, the kids used to come with him. Grohl said they would have "rock-and-roll" family tours whenever they went to Europe with a private plane with the band’s logo, kids in the back “watching cartoons,” and the adults “up front just pounding champagne, fried chicken, and doing the whole thing.”
Then they’d land somewhere like Stockholm or Milan, turning a tour stop into something bigger. “It really sort of broadens their whole scope,” he said.
But of course, your kids never fully appreciate how cool you are. He said he loved to look over mid-show and see someone's kid on the side of the stage, headphones on, completely unimpressed. “They don’t care,” he said. “They really don’t care.”
Dave Grohl's oopsy
Back in September 2024, Dave revealed he had welcomed a child outside of his marriage to Blum. “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” he wrote at the time, adding that he planned “to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”
He also publicly vowed to make things better with his wife and family. "I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness," he shared.
So when Grohl now leans into this idea of being the one who “brings the comfort,” it doesn’t exist in a vacuum.
The couple's teenage daughters deactivated their social media accounts after the drama. But earlier this year, Violet stepped out with her parents at the GRAMMY Gala, showing solidarity as a family.
As for Blum, insiders told People the businesswoman had known “for a while” about the baby. "She was shocked when she found out about the baby. Her friends are like family, and they rallied around her," another source said.
