Haylie Duff and Matthew Rosenberg have called it quits nearly 12 years after getting engaged. The couple who never got married but share daughters Ryan, 10, and Lulu, 7, have gone their separate ways, according to the actress’s rep.
“Haylie and Matt ended their relationship around the first of the year,” Haylie’s rep shared with multiple outlets. “She asks for privacy at this time in protection of her young daughters.”
Hilary Duff’s estranged sister announced her engagement to Rosenberg in April 2014 after two years of dating. “This week has seriously just become the best week of my life!” she detailed on her website, Real Girl’s Kitchen. “As if announcing The Real Girl's Kitchen tv show wasn't enough, Matt just took me by total surprise and proposed…on April Fool's Day of all days!” she wrote. “The moment was genuine and sweet (like him!), and I couldn't wait to say yes!"
Duff then became pregnant with their first daughter, so the wedding had to be postponed. “I did always kind of think to myself whenever our kids started asking us about it, it might be the time that we go, ‘OK, we’ve got to do this thing,'” Haylie told Page Six in 2021. “And Ryan didn’t know the difference between being married and not being married until she started school, and I had to write my name and Matt’s name.”
“And then she was like, ‘Wait a minute!’” Haylie recalled. “So now there’s a lot of talk of, like, ‘at your wedding …’ That kind of stuff.”
Despite not having the same last name, Haylie and Ryan were already a family and didn’t feel the need to be married to love each other. “We feel married in a lot of ways. I mean, we couldn’t be more married if we tried,” she explained.
After moving to Texas in 2021, they resumed their wedding plans. “I think both of us envisioned doing it in Texas,” Haylie said, according to E! “And so now that we’re here, the conversations are happening a little more often than they were before.”
Years passed, and Haylie Duff and Matthew Rosenberg never walked the aisle. Now they have officially ended the relationship.
Another Relationship in Pause
In January 2026, when Hilary Duff’s mom group was labeled as “toxic” by Ashley Tisdale, Hilary’s sister, sided with Ashley, a move that revealed a fractured relationship.
Haylie, 40, supported her friend by hitting the like button on The Cut’s Instagram post promoting an essay titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group.”
The piece, which detailed Tisdale’s experience feeling pushed out of a tight circle of celebrity moms that reportedly included Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor, made worldwide headlines, crowning 2026 as the year of millennial drama.
Haylie and Hilary, who were once famous for being inseparable, have not been photographed together since 2019. Hilary then hinted at a family rift in a November 2025 interview with Rolling Stone. Hilary Duff admitted she was struggling with “family drama.”
Then Hilary shared more details during an appearance on "On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” where she revealed that she has not been on good terms with her parents either. “I think being very vulnerable and open about what it's like to be in a family where your parents aren't together, and you don't have relationships with both of your parents,” she said.
“It's devastating. It doesn't matter what age you are; you want your parents to feel like they care about you. And a big portion of my existence hasn't felt like that.” She admitted, “I don’t know if that's the truth,” adding, “but that's how it feels.”
Hilary then confirmed there is no communication with Hailey: “My sister and I don’t speak.” Adding, "I think in my adulthood I’ve come across more and more people who are having this experience,” Hilary said.
Hilary is currently promoting her new album, which includes “We Don’t Talk," a song about her sister. “That’s my truth,” she declared. “And I really worked hard to lyrically make sure that. I’m just speaking about my experience, you know?”
She described the song as “a very vulnerable song” and called the estrangement “a very raw part of my existence.” Despite all the drama, Duff wants a consiliation. “I hope it’s not forever, but it’s for right now,” she concluded.
