Nicole Kidman definitely knew how to command the room during her latest stop in New York. Promoting her new series, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, the 58-year-old actress proved once again why she’s the ultimate red carpet chameleon, leaning hard into the "naked dress" trend with a daring, sheer Schiaparelli number. The look left little to the imagination, serving as a masterclass in style reinvention and reminding everyone that her fashion game is as sharp as ever.
The Big Little Lies star arrived, saw, and conquered, her radiant smile reflecting a woman clearly thriving. Notably, she stepped out without her wedding ring, a departure from her usual look. It was back in September that Nicole Kidman announced her split from Keith Urban after 20 years of marriage and two daughters together, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15. The divorce became official on January 6.
Now, rumors are swirling that her upbeat mood might be linked to a new spark with her Scarpetta co-star. Kidman is currently starring as the famous forensic pathologist in the hit series alongside Simon Baker (The Mentalist), and their on-screen chemistry is undeniable. On top of her packed slate of projects, the Oscar winner has also surprised fans by revealing a new professional venture she plans to pursue.
As she revealed during a recent lecture series at the University of San Francisco, Kidman is currently training to become an end-of-life doula. It is a deeply personal pivot inspired by the loss of her mother, who passed away in September 2024 at the age of 84. "It might sound a bit strange," she admitted regarding her upcoming endeavor, before explaining her motivation: "As my mother was passing, she was lonely, and there was only so much the family could provide."
Despite its apparent disconnect from her decades-long career, she is motivated to continue growing and learning to support others. The actress received the news of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, passing away while at the Venice Film Festival to accept an award, thousands of miles distant from her home in Australia. That experience, combined with her mother’s health struggles and aging, sparked a deep reflection. Kidman realized that she hadn't known the best way to support her mother during those final months, due to the relentless pace of life and a general lack of resources on the subject. Now, she is finding fulfillment in training to become a death doula, aiming to provide companionship and support to individuals and their families during their final moments.
In this way, the actress feels deeply connected to the process and the grief she continues to navigate, honoring her mother’s memory at every turn. This past March, she shared a moving tribute on social media on what would have been her mother’s 85th birthday. She has also made it a point to dedicate every accolade she receives to her parents; while accepting an award for Babygirl at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January 2025, she used her speech to remind the audience that her entire career "has been for my mom and dad," adding how grateful she was for "the chance to say this is for my mom."
At 58, Kidman is clearly entering a season of transformation, defined by new experiences and new connections. Looking more radiant with every public appearance and red carpet walk, she seems more empowered than ever to evolve and thrive personally and professionally. Whether she’s leaning into her connection with Simon Baker or focusing on her daughters and family, Kidman is moving forward with renewed strength.
