Kate Middleton and Prince William are sharing a family memory with a heartfelt purpose. To mark Mountain Rescue Awareness Day on October 25, the couple released a previously unseen photograph featuring Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis alongside mountain rescue team members.
The picture was taken during Kate’s National Three Peaks Challenge earlier this summer. Against a backdrop of green hills, the family of five posed with the volunteers in a relaxed outdoor setting.
The photograph accompanied a message of appreciation from the Prince and Princess of Wales, who highlighted the commitment of those who give their time to help others in challenging conditions.
“On Mountain Rescue Awareness Day, we send our heartfelt thanks to all those who volunteer their time and expertise to keep people safe in some of our most beautiful but challenging landscapes,” the couple wrote.
Their message also reflected on their personal connection with the rescue community. “Through our connection with this remarkable organisation, we have seen first-hand the dedication, professionalism and compassion that define their work.”
For William and Kate, the summer challenge offered an opportunity to express that gratitude face-to-face. “Meeting local mountain rescue teams during the Three Peaks Challenge this summer was an opportunity to say thank you in person for the vital role they play in keeping walkers and climbers safe on the mountains all year round,” they continued.
A photograph from a meaningful milestone
The image revisits a particularly personal achievement for Kate. In June, the princess completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon, also known as Yr Wyddfa, in Wales within 24 hours.
The effort supported the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which raises funds for the hospital where she received cancer treatment.
Kate completed the challenge with mountain rescue support along the route. William, their three children and other members of her family greeted her at the finish, making their presence an important part of the occasion.
Although the newly shared photograph brings that family moment back into focus, the couple’s latest message puts the volunteers at its heart.
“We are incredibly proud to support the extraordinary volunteers who respond in all conditions, often at a moment’s notice, to help others when they need it most,” they wrote.
They ended with a direct tribute to those whose work continues throughout the year. “To everyone across the mountain rescue community, thank you for your unwavering commitment, courage and service.”
