Queen Mathilde brought a vibrant splash of color to Astana on October 12, joining King Philippe for an official welcome at Kazakhstan’s Akorda Presidential Palace.
Received by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Belgian queen wore a coordinated red ensemble that combined a flowing silhouette with a dramatic, wide-brimmed hat.
Her outfit offered plenty of detail beyond its bold shade. The long-sleeved midi dress featured a wrap-style front and a V-shaped neckline, framed by rows of tonal stitching. A matching sash tied at one side defined her waist, with its long ends falling over the gently flared skirt.
A statement hat and carefully coordinated accessories:
Mathilde continued the red palette with a broad-brimmed hat worn at an angle, its sculptural shape accentuated by a matching bow. The accessory gave the outfit a particularly elegant profile, framing her face while allowing glimpses of her swept-back hairstyle and pearl drop earrings.
Rather than extending the bright color to every accessory, she introduced soft taupe tones through her gloves, structured handbag and pointed-toe pumps. Those understated finishing touches balanced the dress and hat, keeping the focus on the vivid red pairing.
The photographs also captured a warm moment between the royal couple as they posed arm in arm with Astana’s distinctive skyline behind them. Philippe wore a dark overcoat over his gray suit, completing his outfit with a patterned tie.
A royal visit with a broader purpose:
The appearance marked the opening of the official program for the couple’s state visit, which the Belgian palace lists as running from October 12 to 14.
Taking place at President Tokayev’s invitation, the itinerary includes engagements in Astana and Almaty, with diplomatic, economic, academic, cultural and scientific cooperation on the agenda. Healthcare, transport, technology and artificial intelligence are among the areas of focus.
In his opening remarks, Philippe expressed his and Mathilde’s happiness at visiting Kazakhstan and emphasized their wish to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
He also recalled his three previous trips, including an economic mission he led as crown prince in 2010, giving the current visit a personal connection to his earlier royal work.
