Queen Mathilde brought a bold pop of color to New York, pairing her elegant red dress with neutral pumps and a coordinating clutch.

While Mathilde opted for a vibrant coral-red dress, Máxima complemented her fellow queen in a softer palette of blush pink and rich red.

Mathilde's elegant midi dress featured a classic boat neckline and three-quarter sleeves, with a fitted silhouette giving way to an asymmetric draped detail along the skirt. A slit at the front added movement to the otherwise streamlined design.

Máxima took a different approach to the same color family. The Dutch queen wore a pale pink blouse with an elegant draped neckline, pairing it with a flowing red skirt. A woven red clutch and floral statement earrings tied the contrasting shades together.

The stylish moment came during a busy week for both royals in New York. Queen Mathilde is attending UNGA81 as an Advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The two European queens complemented each other in shades of red and pink as they sat side by side during the UN General Assembly.

Her agenda has included discussions surrounding humanitarian action, peace and security, sustainable development and the challenges facing younger generations.

On September 21, she met with the president of the 81st session of the General Assembly, with their conversation touching on the Sustainable Development Goals, conflicts, climate change, artificial intelligence and youth participation.

Queen Máxima, meanwhile, is in New York from September 21 through 24 in her role as the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Financial Health.

In addition to attending the opening of the General Assembly, her schedule includes meetings and events centered on improving financial health and access to financial services.

Long before they became queens, Mathilde and Máxima had already formed a close friendship, pictured together at the Mauritshuis in The Hague in 2006.

Their joint appearance also continued something of a UN tradition. Mathilde and Máxima were photographed together at the opening session of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2025, when Máxima was joined by her eldest daughter, Princess Catharina-Amalia.

One year later, the two queens were back in the same room, this time delivering an effortlessly coordinated royal fashion moment in shades of pink and red.
