Meghan Markle has offered another rare glimpse into Prince Archie's childhood, sharing a previously unseen photograph of her seven-year-old son while maintaining the boundary she and Prince Harry have long kept around their children's privacy.

The Duchess of Sussex returned to Instagram on Thursday with an emotional tribute to her friend and mentor Gloria Steinem, who died on September 2 at the age of 92. Among the personal memories Meghan shared was a framed photograph showing the legendary activist with Archie when he was much younger.

In the sweet image, a toddler-aged Archie can be seen standing near Gloria as she reaches toward him. His face, however, remains deliberately concealed, allowing Meghan to share an intimate family memory without fully putting her son in the public eye.

It's an approach royal watchers have become increasingly familiar with. While Archie and his younger sister, Princess Lilibet, have largely grown up away from the cameras, Meghan has gradually shared carefully selected glimpses of their lives, from family outings and moments at home to their voices and the adorable mix of American and British influences they have picked up from their parents.

Earlier this year, Archie could be heard speaking during a family outing shared by his mom, revealing the American accent he developed after spending much of his childhood in California.

Meghan has also previously revealed that both Archie and Lilibet have "very American accents," although Harry's British influence occasionally slips through. One example is the way they pronounce "zebra," sometimes opting for their father's British pronunciation rather than their mother's American one.

Meghan has shared small details about Archie’s personality and upbringing as he has grown up outside the royal spotlight.

The latest photograph reveals something different about Archie's childhood. The close relationship Gloria shared with the Sussex family behind closed doors.

In her tribute, Meghan explained that while she and Gloria worked together publicly on initiatives encouraging voter participation and greater equality, their private friendship became deeply personal.

Meghan has continued to protect Archie and Lilibet’s privacy while occasionally sharing glimpses of their family life.

She revealed that Gloria spent Thanksgiving with the family, loved Archie and Lilibet "with her whole heart" and was someone Meghan turned to for advice during difficult periods of her life.

"Privately, she was even better than you would imagine," Meghan wrote. The revelation gives new context to the photograph of Gloria and Archie and shows that the activist was part of the children's lives rather than simply one of their mother's famous friends.

Prince Harry and Meghan have occasionally offered glimpses of Archie and Lilibet while keeping their faces out of the spotlight.

Meghan's latest glimpse of Archie comes during another significant chapter for the young prince. He and Lilibet recently returned to the UK with their parents after spending their formative years in California, bringing the children closer to the country where Archie was born in May 2019.

Despite sharing more pieces of their family life in recent years, Harry and Meghan have continued to keep many details about Archie and Lilibet private, particularly when it comes to showing their faces.

Prince Archie has largely grown up away from the public eye as Harry and Meghan have kept their children’s lives private.

The new photograph may reveal another piece of Archie's childhood, but the way Meghan chose to share it makes one thing equally clear, even as the Sussex children become a little more visible, their parents are still deciding exactly how much of their world the public gets to see.
