Prince Archie had a suggestion for his parents when it came to his education. A school where math wasn’t on the timetable. Unfortunately for the seven-year-old, Prince Harry couldn’t make that particular wish come true. And his first lesson at his new school delivered a rather funny twist.
The Duke of Sussex shared the anecdote while greeting schoolchildren during his visit to Nottingham with Meghan Markle on Thursday, October 15. Their conversation offered a lighthearted glimpse into Archie’s personality as the family settles into life in Britain.
Prince Archie’s school request met a familiar answer:
In a video shared on Instagram by journalist Alex Seale, Harry struck up a conversation with young well-wishers about their classes. When one expressed an enthusiasm for math, the duke responded warmly.
“You like math? I love that,” he said, before explaining that his own son had a different opinion about the subject. Harry recalled Archie asking, “Can I go to a school that doesn’t do math?” His father’s answer was straightforward. “It doesn’t exist!”
The story didn’t end there. Harry went on to explain that when Archie arrived at his new school, math was the very first class on his first day. His attempt to avoid the subject had ended with it taking the opening slot on his timetable.
A new school chapter for Archie and Lilibet:
The school anecdote comes after a significant transition for the Sussex family. Harry and Meghan returned to Britain from California in August with Archie and his younger sister, five-year-old Princess Lilibet.
The children subsequently changed schools following concerns about security. Despite that disruption, a source told People that they had settled well into their new school.
For Harry and Meghan, the Nottingham outing also revisited a meaningful location in their own story. The city hosted their first joint royal engagement following the announcement of their engagement in 2017.
This time, their itinerary included the Community Recording Studio, Himmah Hub and Epic Partners, with a focus on community support and opportunities for young people.
Between those visits, Harry’s conversation with the schoolchildren supplied a memorable parenting update. Even a prince can’t negotiate his way out of math class.
