King Felipe and Queen Letizia celebrate Spain’s historic 2026 World Cup triumph with their daughters and the national team

The 2026 World Cup final had all the makings of one of the most memorable matches in tournament history. It was already a one-of-a-kind World Cup, the first to be hosted by three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Spain and Argentina battled for 125 minutes before the outcome was finally decided, with La Roja claiming victory thanks to a goal from Ferran Torres. It was a nail-biting match on a night when soccer shared the spotlight with music, celebrities, and an unprecedented spectacle.

For the first time in history, King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended a World Cup final together with their two daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía. The Royal Family, who had supported La Roja from the start of the tournament, cheered on the Spanish national team from the VIP box at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Minutes before kickoff, they shared a heartfelt message with the players. They also made their support for Spain clear through their outfits, incorporating red pieces into their looks.

Shortly before the match, they also posted a message on social media: “This World Cup final is more than just a match. It’s a shared dream that brings an entire country together and moves people around the world who carry Spain in their hearts. Today, millions of people are with you, dreaming alongside you. Go get that victory!”

“This team is capturing people’s hearts again, just as the generation before them did in 2010. I think we’re going to see a spectacular final between two brother nations. It will be a great show, and let’s hope the result goes our way,” King Felipe said just minutes before the match. And that’s exactly what happened. Spain emerged victorious, and La Roja claimed its second World Cup star.

“Another Dream Come True”

Shortly after the final whistle, King Felipe VI went down onto the field at MetLife Stadium to personally congratulate the players and coaching staff, alongside the other dignitaries attending the final. The King shared the first moments of celebration with the champions following their title win, exchanging hugs and knowing gestures with the players.

The Royal Household also congratulated the Spanish national team on social media.

“World champions! Another unforgettable page in our history. Another star. Another dream come true, thanks to an extraordinary generation that has shown that talent, hard work, humility, and teamwork are the path to success. Congratulations to the team, the coaching staff, and the fans who never stopped believing. Today, we celebrate a title. Tomorrow, we will remember a legend,” the Royal Household wrote alongside a photo of the key figures in this historic achievement, including head coach Luis de la Fuente.

A Star-Studded Crowd

The Royal Family wasn’t alone in making the trip to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. FIFA invited 130 celebrities, making it the largest guest list of famous faces ever assembled for the event.

The stadium’s VIP box was packed with notable guests. Among the prominent Spanish attendees were Javier Bardem and several La Roja legends who helped Spain win its first World Cup in 2010, including Iker Casillas, Xavi Hernández, David Villa, and Fernando Llorente. Alejandra Silva attended with her husband, Richard Gere, while María Valverde accompanied Gustavo Dudamel, one of the stars of the halftime show.

The VIP guest list also included Mick Jagger, Dua Lipa, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, Brooke Shields, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Sports legends in attendance included David Beckham and his family; Diego Simeone, accompanied by Carla Pereyra; Didier Drogba; Kaká; and Zinedine Zidane.

The World Champions Are Back in Madrid: Spain Lands at Barajas

Spain’s national soccer team is finally home, and the World Cup trophy is back on Spanish soil. After defeating Argentina in a historic final, Luis de la Fuente’s squad landed at Madrid’s Barajas Airport on Monday to an enthusiastic welcome.

Captain Rodri carried the trophy as the players, coaching staff, and members of the Spanish Football Federation arrived from the United States. Their return marked the beginning of the celebrations for a team that has officially been crowned the new champion of world soccer.
