Queen Margrethe enjoyed a picture-perfect day on the water as she stepped aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog for a meaningful summer engagement that combined royal tradition with a personal milestone.
Beaming throughout the outing, the former Danish monarch looked elegant in a vibrant red blazer layered over a colorful printed dress as she sailed beneath the Queen Margrethe II Bridge, the landmark named in her honor.
The special voyage came just weeks after Crown Prince Christian represented his grandmother at the bridge's official inauguration. Ahead of the outing, the future king also presented Queen Margrethe with the bridge's original design sketch, making the visit an especially sentimental occasion.
A royal moment comes full circle:
According to the Danish Royal House, Monday's voyage completed "a special circle."
Earlier this summer, Crown Prince Christian attended the official opening celebrations of the Queen Margrethe II Bridge on behalf of his grandmother, where he received the bridge's original design sketch.
Last week, he personally presented the keepsake to Queen Margrethe ahead of her own visit.
Now, the former queen has experienced the bridge from the water for the very first time, sailing beneath the structure aboard the Dannebrog as part of an unofficial voyage through Danish waters.
King Frederik made the Royal Yacht available to his mother for the occasion, underscoring the close bond between the Danish royals and adding another meaningful family touch to the day.
A cheerful summer look:
Queen Margrethe embraced a bold summer color palette for the outing, choosing a striking scarlet blazer over a belted blue, white and red printed dress featuring an abstract floral-inspired motif.
The polished ensemble was complemented by sparkling floral earrings, a daisy brooch pinned to her lapel, delicate rimless glasses and her signature swept-back hairstyle secured with a coordinating red hair clip.
Throughout the day, the 86-year-old royal appeared in excellent spirits, smiling warmly as she greeted guests, admired the views from the yacht's deck and took in the historic bridge bearing her name.
Meeting guests aboard the Royal Yacht:
The outing also included a gathering aboard the Dannebrog, where Queen Margrethe welcomed the mayors of the Guldborgsund and Vordingborg municipalities along with representatives from the Danish Road Directorate.
Photos shared by the Danish Royal House captured the former monarch chatting with guests over coffee, examining the original bridge sketch gifted by Crown Prince Christian and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere on board.
The series of images offered another glimpse of Queen Margrethe embracing life after her abdication, continuing to participate in select royal engagements while enjoying meaningful moments with her family and celebrating milestones tied to her remarkable reign.
