Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima officially welcomed Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan to the Netherlands on Wednesday, June 17, marking the beginning of a state visit celebrating more than 400 years of ties between the two nations.

The royal and imperial couples gathered at Amsterdam's Dam Square for a grand ceremonial welcome, where they were greeted by local Japanese schoolchildren and attended a military ceremony featuring both national anthems.

Later in the day, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako laid a wreath at the National Monument before joining the Dutch royals for a state banquet at the Royal Palace Amsterdam.

While the occasion highlighted the enduring friendship between the Netherlands and Japan, Queen Máxima and Empress Masako also offered a masterclass in diplomatic fashion through two beautifully coordinated yet distinct looks.

The sleeveless silhouette featured a fitted bodice that flowed into a voluminous A-line skirt with a subtle high-low hemline, making it one of her most memorable daytime looks of the year.

The Dutch queen paired the eye-catching dress with ivory accessories, including pointed-toe pumps, a structured clutch, and a matching headband-style fascinator.

She also draped a soft ivory cape-style jacket over her shoulders, adding elegance and practicality for the outdoor ceremony.

Her jewelry continued the botanical theme. Máxima wore statement earrings featuring green stones and pearls, complemented by delicate bracelets and her signature watch.

For her beauty look, the queen styled her blonde hair in soft, polished waves with a side part, allowing the wide ivory headband to frame her face.

Her makeup remained fresh and radiant, featuring softly defined eyes, rosy cheeks, and a natural pink lip that allowed the vibrant dress to remain the focal point.

The monochromatic ensemble reflected the Japanese Imperial Household's preference for refined tailoring, clean lines, and elegant restraint during official engagements. The soft blue hue also provided a beautiful visual complement to Queen Máxima's bold green look.

Masako completed the outfit with a matching structured hat adorned with delicate netting, nude pumps, and coordinating gloves. Her jewelry remained classic and discreet, consisting of a single-strand pearl necklace and matching pearl earrings.
