The Spanish Royal Family's schedule has been packed in recent days. Following their reception of Pope Leo XIV in Madrid, the Pontiff heads to Barcelona this Tuesday. Early this morning, the King and Queen met at Zarzuela Palace with the Executive Committee of the Princess of Girona Foundation.

The foundation's annual awards ceremony will take place on July 14 at Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu and, as every year, will be attended by the monarchs and their daughters.

Afterward, the royal couple also welcomed the Board of Trustees and Scientific Council of the Lilly Foundation as part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations.

For the occasion, Queen Letizia abandoned the immaculate white ensembles that have defined her most recent appearances.

During her two meetings with the Pontiff in Madrid, she exercised the special privilege granted by the Holy See that allows a select group of Catholic queens to wear white in the Pope's presence.

On Saturday, she chose an elegant guipure lace design, and 24 hours later, she appeared in a "wasp-waist" dress that ranks among Kate Middleton's favorite silhouettes.

Queen Letizia's bold look:

Remaining faithful to royal protocol, though certainly less constrained than the dress code required when meeting the head of the Catholic Church, Queen Letizia revisited a look that caused quite a sensation in Madrid a few years ago.

At the height of the Barbiecore phenomenon, ahead of the release of the iconic doll's blockbuster film, she stepped out dressed head-to-toe in pink.

Known as the Dellisi model, the bohemian-inspired dress with a rope belt was part of Hugo Boss's 2020 collection. Since its debut on June 9, 2021, exactly five years ago today, the Queen has worn it only once more, at the 2022 Madrid Book Fair.

Queen Letizia's wedge espadrilles:

The first time she wore the dress, Letizia paired it with fuchsia snakeskin pumps from CH Carolina Herrera.

For its second outing, however, she refreshed the look with a more relaxed choice, including new bubblegum-pink wedge espadrilles from Clooui, the Spanish brand founded by Priscila Sanjuán, which has specialized in espadrilles and esparto-grass footwear since its Ibiza beginnings in 2016.

Crafted in suede, the shoes featured a 10-centimeter wedge heel, a closed toe, and matching ankle ties that provided extra support while walking, an important consideration given the foot problems the Queen has openly dealt with.

This Tuesday, she once again paired the pink dress with matching wedge espadrilles. This time, however, they were not Clooui's Saladeta model, but a virtually bespoke pair handmade in Murcia by Calzados Picón.

Founded in 1978 as a specialist espadrille manufacturer, Calzados Picón experienced a major breakthrough in 2020 when Queen Letizia appeared in Cantabria wearing one of its designs, a blue cross-strap espadrille created specifically to complement her outfit that day.

The Queen balances royal protocol with relaxed summer styling in soft pink tones and espadrilles.

Since then, the Queen has become a loyal customer. According to founder Sánchez Picón, the company even keeps a last made from her foot measurements in order to customize her footwear.

Those espadrilles became one of the brand's most sought-after designs. Princess Leonor later requested a replica, which she wore for Infanta Sofía's confirmation ceremony.

Infanta Elena and Victoria de Marichalar have also embraced footwear from the Murcian town of Caravaca de la Cruz, where espadrilles have become an indispensable summer wardrobe staple.

A subtle jewelry update:

The most noticeable difference between today's look and its previous iterations lies in the accessories.

White-gold and diamond earrings by Gold & Roses replaced the classic gold hoop earrings she wore with the outfit in spring 2022. Today's choice is the brand's signature Double Dagger design, one of the Queen's favorites in recent years.

She owns several pieces from the Madrid-based fine jewelry house founded by Hannah Rodríguez and Sonia Ruiz, but this particular pair remains among her most frequently worn and recognizable accessories.
