In just a few hours, the fashion world will delight in the new looks celebrities and stylists have prepared for their arrival at the 2026 MET Gala. Days before the big night, New York City has already begun its transformation into an epicenter of luxury, fun, and creativity, with parties and events designed to build momentum for tonight's festivities.
Among these pre-gala highlights, the annual party hosted by actor Colman Domingo has already become a "must-attend" moment on the weekend's calendar. Known as "Put that Sh*t on," this experience brings together some of the industry's most iconic personalities to celebrate a night surrounded by fine dining, music, and pure luxury.
This year, the actor chose maximalism as the dress code. Because of this, both he and his guests got straight to work selecting iconic and unforgettable looks. For his part, Domingo opted for a design that not only offered a fresh perspective but was also created and signed by one of the most renowned Mexican designers of the moment.
A Closer Look at Colman Domingo’s Latin-Inspired Style
The presence and relevance of designers of Latin origin is increasingly prominent at major fashion events. The MET Gala is a space where luxury, archival fashion, and Haute Couture remain the common denominators, but it is becoming more common to find celebrities betting on Latin designs. Last year, for example, Maluma chose a design by Willy Chavarría for his gala appearance. Now, Colman Domingo has been won over by Mexican creativity.
The actor took his party’s dress code, which asked guests to arrive in maximalist pieces, very seriously. Colman teamed up with Mexican designer Patricio Campillo to wear a piece that was elegant yet extraordinary. The actor wore a jacket and a halter-neck top made of feathers in warm tones.
Both pieces were handmade by the designer in his Mexico City atelier and, according to various reports, took about 20 days to create on a schedule of six days a week. This was because each rooster feather was individually sewn onto the garment.
Later that evening, the actor changed into something more understated and sophisticated, choosing a velvet shirt, trousers, and trench coat ensemble complemented by sunglasses and sparkling boots. The evening was attended by personalities such as Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Steven Spielberg, and many more.
Could we see more than one Campillo design on the MET Gala red carpet tonight? While the answer remains uncertain, nothing would please us more than seeing the Mexican designer shine alongside the stars.
