The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is in full force, and we have a little more than three weeks of exciting matches as women’s soccer teams from around the world compete for the prestigious title. The tournament takes place every four years, and this year’s games started July 20, in the Oceanic regions of Australia and New Zealand, with the final match exactly a month later on August 20. There have been some stand-out players making headlines, but who is the highest-paid? It should be noted the battle many female athletes have made for equal pay.

In 2022, US Soccer reached a $24M equal pay settlement with an equal pay agreement that will see the US women’s national team earn the same for playing for their country as the men’s team but around the world. Some of the best players are still not paid anything close to their male counterparts. Alex Morgan - $7.1 million

San Diego Wave forward Alex Morgan is a star for the USWNT, with an $800,000-a-year contract in America’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). What makes her number soar around other women soccer stars with the same salary, she has $6.3 million in endorsements.

Megan Rapinoe - $7 million

Megan Rapinoe is a long-time USWNT legend that has not only protected her team on the field but in the courts, fighting for pay equality. Her recent contract renewal with NWSL club OL Reign saw a significant improvement in the $250,000 salary which, according to Forbes, she previously earned. She brings in $6.3 million in off-field earnings.

Alexia Putellas - $4 million

The Spanish midfielder, Alexia Putellas, has an $800,000 contract with FC Barcelona and will lead the Spain national team in the championship. The 2021 and 2022 Ballon d’Or Féminin has earned endorsements of $3.2 million on Instagram where she has 3 million followers.

Trinity Rodman - $2.3 million

Trinity Rodman, The daughter of NBA legend Dennis Roman has been making headlines since she was selected as the second overall pick in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) draft by the Washington Spirit at just 18 with an $800,000 contract. Now 21, the US forward has several endorsement deals that add up to $1.5 million in off-field earnings.

Crystal Dunn - $2 million

Crystal Dunn has represented the USWNT and has been an integral part of their success in various international competitions. The experienced defender and Portland Thorns midfielder has a $700,000 contract with $1.3 million in endorsements.
