Halle Berry was immensely flattered by Zendaya's tribute at the Emmys. On Monday night, Zendaya was one of the nominees and presenters at the awards show, wearing a silver, sparkly dress that was a direct reference to one of Berry's most famous looks.
Zendaya attended the 78th Emmy Awards in a custom silver Prada gown. She also debuted her pixie haircut, with the overall result being a direct reference to Berry's look at the premiere of her James Bond film, "Die Another Day."
“There’s an elegance to pearls that will always be classic, but the way Zendaya wears them tonight feels completely of the moment,” said Roach when discussing Zendaya's look.
Berry shared her reaction on social media, sharing photos on her Instagram stories of herself and Zendaya side to side. She added a heart and tagged Zendaya and her stylist, Law Roach.
“She murdered the night,” wrote Berry. She also added a video of herself in her stories, from an appearance at The Drew Barrymore, where she talked about her desire to play Zendaya's mom in a film someday.
"There's an actress that I love with every fiber of my being. I love her, and I would love to play her mother," said Berry before revealing Zendaya's name. "I could play her mom, right?" she playfully asked the crowd, who all cheered in agreement.
Berry's admiration for Zendaya dates back years
This isn't the first time that Berry has spoken publicly about how much she admires Zendaya. Back in 2021, at a virtual panel for the Sundance Film Festival, Berry called Zendaya a "walking embodiment" of Black women's success in Hollywood and how much things had changed over the years.
Berry said Zendaya was "proof-positive that things are changing and I couldn’t be prouder and I know you probably can’t be prouder of yourself, which is most important."
“But it’s proof that it’s changing, for sure.”
