Arnold Schwarzenegger is celebrating his 79th birthday. It's a big moment, celebrating the end of a significant decade and ushering in a new one. To prepare, Schwarzenegger is doing what he does best: lifting massive weights and showing off his well-known muscles.
In a new post on social media, Schwarzenegger shared some photos of himself working out. In them, he appears to be in his trusty Gold's Gym, the Venice Beach gym that's so closely linked to his career as a bodybuilder, completing a celebratory workout.
"I turn 79 today. I don’t want any gifts. Instead, my team and I are turning the fitness industry upside down," he wrote. He then proceeded to offer his followers four workout programs for free for a year in his app, the Pump Club.
"No fine print. Show up, do the work, and your first year is free," he wrote.
"'Arnold, I thought you were a good businessman.' I am. But the Pump Club is not backed by a private equity fund or a hedge fund. It’s backed by me. This is a crusade, not just a business. I’ve been trying to get people to train for six decades, and I finally found something that works. If I can make millions of you train all year, I’ll take the loss."
The Pump Club is a fitness app and wellness community that launched in 2024. The standard membership costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year, providing users with different workout programs, newsletters, and advice from its team of trainers.
Schwarzenegger's approach to fitness
Over the years, and through shifts that include bodybuilding to acting to politics to acting again, Schwarzenegger has discussed his approach to fitness. In a recent essay for Newsweek, Schwarzenegger reveals that people view fitness as an activity with an expiration date.
"People assume that fitness has a finish line. It doesn't," he wrote. "Not every day is a great workout. Some days, showing up is the whole victory. I'll take it."
He reveals that even though he's been working out for decades and he doesn't want to work out some days, he still does it. "I don't wait for inspiration. I get up anyway."
Schwarzenegger treats his fitness as anyone treats something they're passionate about. "Movement stopped being about how my body looks a long time ago," he explained. "Now I train so I can keep doing the things that matter."
