Katherine Schwarzenegger is giving fans another rare glimpse at the close bond between her parents, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, years after the former couple went their separate ways.
The 36-year-old author shared a carousel of photos from her summer on Instagram this week, offering a look at everything from family moments to time spent with her children. “Summer… you were good to us! Back to reality,” she captioned the post.
But one particular photo stood out. In the second slide, Arnold, 79, and Maria, 70, can be seen smiling together during what appeared to be a celebratory family dinner alongside three of the four children they share. Katherine, Christina Schwarzenegger, 35, and Patrick Schwarzenegger, 32.
Arnold was all smiles with a slice of cake and a sparkler in front of him, while Maria posed right by his side. Katherine stood behind her mom with her arm around her, with Patrick and Christina joining them for the sweet family moment.
While Katherine did not reveal exactly when the photo was taken or what the family was celebrating, Arnold marked his 79th birthday on July 30.
A family bond that has endured:
The sweet moment comes five years after Arnold and Maria finalized their divorce in December 2021, a decade after Maria filed for divorce in 2011.
The former couple married in 1986 and welcomed four children together. Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher Schwarzenegger. Arnold is also the father of Joseph Baena, 28, whom he famously welcomed with his housekeeper, Mildred Baena, when he was married to Maria, which led to their divorce.
Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding the end of their marriage, Arnold and Maria have spoken openly about the relationship they have maintained and their commitment to keeping their family close.
In a 2023 interview with People, the former California governor opened up about their relationship following the split, explaining that they continued to communicate about their children and important family occasions
“So everything is kind of just as if we're together, but we have separate lives,” Arnold told the publication. “And she has her things, her relationship, I have mine, but we always communicate about the kids, about the holidays, about birthday parties and Mother's Day parties and Christmas.”
“My chapter with Maria will continue on forever,” he continued. “Even though it's a different relationship, there's no reason for me to feel anything other than love for her.”
Maria offered a similarly positive update in 2025, telling the publication that she and her former husband “are in a good place.” “We laugh a lot about our kids, our grandkids, ourselves, and we are proud of the fact that we are still in conversation,” she said. “For almost 50 years!”
Another rare reunion:
Katherine’s latest post isn't the first time she's recently offered a glimpse of her parents together.
For Arnold’s 79th birthday this summer, she shared a heartfelt tribute featuring photos from throughout their father-daughter relationship. Among the images was a more recent shot of Arnold and Maria sitting side by side in winter coats and sunglasses during what appeared to be a family ski trip.
The latest photo, however, brings even more of the family together and offers another candid look at the dynamic Arnold and Maria have built since their separation.
