D'Lila and Jessie Combs are ready to step out from behind their famous last name. While their disgraced dad, Sean "Diddy" Combs, remains behind bars serving his sentence, the 19-year-old twins are standing on business, launching their first fashion line.
This new venture marks their biggest career move yet, and in their first interview since Diddy's conviction, they said they're focused on building a path that's entirely their own. The sisters also made it clear that his legal troubles won't define who they are or their future.
Despite the widespread criticism and controversy surrounding Diddy's crimes, the twins said they have no hesitation about stepping further into the spotlight despite the intense attention surrounding their father.
D'Lila said she had no fear when it came to public scrutiny. She explained that people "fail to realize" that their "press is our own press." "People fail to understand that we are also individuals. It's separate. So, I don't have any fear."
Jessie shared the same outlook, saying the challenges surrounding their family have only strengthened their resolve. "We have to keep going. It's honestly just made us push and work harder because we're not going to stop," she told the outlet.
The sisters, whom Diddy shared with the late Kim Porter, said launching a clothing brand has been a longtime dream, but they finally feel the timing is right because they're "becoming adults." "We're 19 years old. We're not in high school anymore. We're becoming young women. We're becoming our own individuals."
Despite their father's incarceration, the twins said their relationship with him remains unchanged. According to Jessie, he continues to play an active role in their lives and regularly offers guidance.
"We definitely are very close, and he gives the best advice," she said. "He's always going to be there, and he's always going to tell us the right answers." They said he is "literally like never wrong," adding, " Like everything that like he has told us about this, it's been so helpful.”
She added that while serving his sentence, Diddy has remained focused on self-improvement and his family. "He's been very focused, you know, on being a better person for his family," Jessie said. "He's just always been there for us."
The sisters also expressed gratitude for the people who have stood beside them through the past year, thanking their supporters, friends, family, and team for their continued encouragement as they begin carving out careers independent of their family name.
