Cristiano Ronaldo had plenty to celebrate this week. On Wednesday morning, the Portuguese star took the field at Houston Stadium with Portugal for the team’s opening match of the 2026 World Cup, which ended in a 1-1 draw against the Republic of the Congo.

However, beyond the excitement surrounding the world’s biggest tournament, Ronaldo also had a personal moment to celebrate at home. On June 17, his eldest son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., turned 16, and the proud father made sure to celebrate the occasion with a touching message.

Before shifting his full focus to the match, Ronaldo shared a photo with his son on Instagram Stories, wishing him a happy birthday.

“Happy birthday, son! Your father loves you,” he wrote alongside the image, which shows the pair smiling for the camera while Cristiano Jr. gives a thumbs-up. The teenager is wearing the youth team uniform of Al Nassr, the club where he’s following in his father’s footsteps.

For Ronaldo, family remains one of his greatest motivations on and off the field. The soccer icon and fiancé of Georgina Rodríguez has always made his loved ones a priority. In the days leading up to Portugal’s World Cup camp, he was seen playing soccer with his younger children, Eva, Mateo, Alana, and Bella, making the most of his time with them before returning to training and competition.

A sweet message from grandma

During his early years, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. was raised by his father with the constant support of his grandmother, Dolores Aveiro. A few years later, his world changed with the arrival of his younger siblings, twins Eva and Mateo. Around the same time, Georgina Rodríguez became part of the family, and just four months after the twins were born, Alana Martina arrived. In April 2022, the family welcomed their youngest daughter, Bella Esmeralda.

Naturally, Dolores didn’t let the special occasion pass without sharing a loving message for her grandson.

“Happy birthday! Today is a day to celebrate, my boy is turning another year older. I hope you have a wonderful day. We’ll be together soon to celebrate, and may this day be repeated for many, many years to come. Kisses. Grandma loves you very much. 🎂🎉🎂🎉😘😘” she wrote.
