Prince Jackson celebrated his father's legacy at last night's premiere of "Michael," the anticipated biopic of the late Michael Jackson. His appearance on the Los Angeles red carpet marks a separate route from the one taken by his sister, Paris Jackson, who has taken her distance from the film and criticized it.
Prince, 29, joined many of his family members at the film's premiere, taking photos alongside some of his aunts and uncles, including Marlon, La Toya, Jermaine, and Jackie Jackson.
For the premiere, he wore a black suit with details that were clear nods towards his father's legacy, including a red band on the side of the arm calling attention to the "Heal Los Angeles" foundation, and a golden crown printed on the chest, a reference to Jackson's King of Pop status.
Prince sported a buzzcut and a beard, and smiled as he took photos with the film's leading man, Jaafar Jackson, Michael's nephew. His siblings, Paris, 28, and Bigi, 24, were absent from the premiere, even though Bigi showed support for the film earlier this month, attending its premiere in Berlin.
Why Paris Jackson has not supported the film
"Michael" will premiere in theaters this Friday, April 24th, telling the story of Jackson's life and career, from his origins in the Jackson 5 band to his status as the world's biggest pop star with the creation of "Thriller," his game-changing 1982 album. The cast is made up of Jaafar Jackson, Colman Domingo, Nia Long, and Miles Teller.
Last year, Paris Jackson criticized some comments made by Domingo, where he alleged that she was involved in the project and was supportive of it. He said that Paris' influence was "very helpful" while also calling Prince the "man of the film."
Paris denied Domingo's statements on social media, addressing him directly. "Don’t be telling people I was helpful on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in lol that is so weird,” she wrote on her Instagram stories. “I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my thoughts on what was dishonest/didn’t sit right with me and when they didn’t address it I moved on with my life. Not my monkeys not my circus. God bless and god speed.”
Over the past year, Paris has been engaged in a legal battle with the Jackson estate, with her accusing John Branca and John McClain, the estate's legal executors, of abusing their role to make profits for themselves. Branca, a lawyer with a long-term connection to Jackson, is featured in the film, with Teller playing the role. Brance and McClain have denied Paris' claims.
