Cher is filing for conservatorship of her youngest son, Elijah Blue Allman. The beloved singer and actress has quoted her son's drug dependency as the reason behind the filing, with her hoping to appoint a temporary conservator to help manage her son's finances.
The documentation was filed in Los Angeles, as reported by Page Six. Cher requested that the fiduciary Jason Rubin be in charge of Elijah's finances, who has long been struggling with drug issues. This marks the second time she has filed for conservatorship of her son's finances.
“The life of Elijah Allman (‘proposed conservatee’) has significantly deteriorated since a prior conservatorship petition was filed in [December] 2023,” reads the filing.
“The proposed conservatee is currently in custody in the State of New Hampshire in a locked psychiatric hospital in an attempt to restore him to competency to face criminal charges in two cases across two New Hampshire counties for: felony burglary, criminal mischief, simple assault, criminal trespass, and breach of bail, but that is just the current set of problems.”
According to the documentation, Allman "spends any money he gets immediately" on “drugs, expensive hotels and limousine transportation.” Devon Allman, Elijah's brother, has supported Cher's claims, submitting a declaration in her support.
“It is my opinion that he is currently a danger to himself and unable to manage his life and any funds that would become available to him," he wrote. “My recent visit to check in on him brought me unfortunate and profound sadness that took weeks of my life to process. His condition, both physical and mental, was appalling and delusional, respectively.”
More details about Cher's family
Cher is the mother of two sons, Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman. Chaz is her eldest, sharing him with her first husband, Sonny Bono. Cher and her second husband, Gregg Allman, had Elijah in 1976, with the couple splitting up a couple of years later due to Allman's drug addiction.
“I stayed with him until I knew I couldn’t because I didn’t want the kids to be around it,” she said in an interview with Parade in 2018.
Cher and Elijah have experienced many ups and downs over the years, with Elijah dealing with drug abuse and a complex marriage and divorce to Marieangela King. In recent years, Elijah has had various encounters with the law and visits to the hospital due to "erratic" behavior.
