Matt Damon knows more Spanish than you think. The actor has been married to Luciana Barroso, an Argentine, for the past 20 years. The two share four children, with Damon opening up about his vacations spent in Argentina visiting family.
In an interview with HOLA! at the CFDA Awards, Damon showed off just how much he knows Spanish. While he replied in English, he understood a lengthy question.
"Sorry to answer to you in English," Damon said with a laugh. He'd been asked about clothing, an important topic for the CFDA Awards, which celebrate the annual fashion prizes granted by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
"For me, it's all about character," he continued. "That is one thing in terms of fashion and style and all of those things. I've had a window into it in different epics throughout history depending on what I'm playing."
"Doing something like The Talented Mr. Ripley in Italy in the 1950s. Learning about it in that way has been really interesting, and that's really what I obsess about."
Damon takes his daughter as his date
This year, Damon attended the CFDA Awards alongside his 20-year-old daughter, Isabella Damon. The two made for a study in contrasts, with Damon opting for an all-black look made up of a suit with a matching button-up and tie, and Isabella opting for silver.
She wore a dress by the New York brand Luar, made up of intricate crochet details that she paired with heels and with her hair held up in a stylish and classy bun. She rounded out the look with some jewelry.
On the red carpet, the two were asked about the advice they give to each other. “We both have trouble answering questions seriously,” Damon told PEOPLE. “And so I think we advise each other to try to answer questions more seriously."
Damon proceeded to compliment his daughter. “She’s a wonderful, wonderful young woman and I don’t give her advice in the sense that I worry about her. But I’m really excited to see what she does with her life.”
