Choosing a baby name can be stressful, but Khloé Kardashian took the challenge to another level. The reality star recently revealed that it took nearly nine months after her son’s birth before she finally settled on the name Tatum.

During an “Ask Me Anything” episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonderland, the former Keeping Up with the Kardashians star opened up about the unexpected delay and the creative process behind the name.

Khloé welcomed her second child with ex Tristan Thompson via surrogate in 2022. While many parents have a name ready before birth, Khloé admitted she struggled to find the perfect one. “[For] Tatum, I don't think I landed on a name for like, nine months after he was born, which was crazy,” she explained.

For months, the baby simply went by a placeholder. “We called him Baby at first. And then like, we would just like, call him Rob sometimes.” Even with the delay, Khloé had a clear vision of what she wanted. She preferred a name starting with the letter T to match her daughter’s name and keep a family theme. “I wanted a T name, something still unique but not too unique, not crazy.”

Still, she did briefly consider a much more unusual option. “But I think the wildest name I liked for him was Tiger.” Ultimately, the name Tatum struck the balance she was looking for. It felt modern, distinctive, and still fit the family’s T-name tradition.

The Meaning Behind Daughter True’s Name

Interestingly, naming her first child came much easier. Khloé shares daughter True with Tristan Thompson, who was born in 2018, and she said she knew immediately what the baby would be called. “And then for True, there was no real options,” Khloé said. “I just knew it was True. I loved the name True.”

“But Tristan wanted to name her Khaleesi.”

However, Tristan had a very different suggestion that reflected the pop culture moment of the time. “But Tristan wanted to name her Khaleesi.” The name Khaleesi rose in popularity during the peak of Game of Thrones, but Khloé was not convinced. “This was in the big ‘Game of Thrones’ era and I just knew we weren't naming her after Khaleesi, but I think that was the only name I can think of, but it wasn't going to happen. Khaleesi. Crazy.”

Instead of following a TV trend, Khloé leaned into family history.

The Sweet Family Connection Behind True

True’s name carries a deeper meaning than many fans realize. During the podcast episode, Khloé revealed that the name actually honors her late grandfather. “His name was Robert True. And then his dad was True something.”

The name resurfaced during a conversation with her grandmother while Khloé was searching for inspiration. “And so my grandma, when we were at dinner and I was like, 'What am I going to name this baby? I really want a T name.’ I wanted their initials to be TT.”

That simple moment led to the name that felt instantly right. “And she was like, 'Why not True?' That's your grandfather's name.' Anyways, that's where that name came from.”

The personal connection made the name even more meaningful, tying together family history with the modern Kardashian generation.

Why the Kardashian Family Loves T Names

Khloé has quietly created a pattern with her children’s names. Both True and Tatum start with the letter T, a detail she intentionally wanted from the beginning.

She even admitted she hoped both children would share the same initials. “I wanted their initials to be TT.” The theme mirrors a long-standing Kardashian tradition of distinctive names that stand out while still feeling personal.
