Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially divorced and single

When it became official that Jennifer Lopez had filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, many anticipated a lengthy and complicated process due to the lack of a prenuptial agreement. However, this was not the case. Just a few days ago, it was revealed that the former couple had reached a settlement and that it would only be a matter of weeks before the dissolution of their brief marriage was finalized. The deadline has now passed, as the singer and the actor have officially been declared single.

The Los Angeles County Superior Court announced that the two-year marriage of JLo and Ben was formally dissolved and that the ex-couple would be legally single starting February 21, according to court documents obtained by the AP agency and media outlets like People. A judge approved the divorce settlement of the former couple on January 6, and it was stipulated to take effect last Friday, after the six months required by California had passed since the singer filed for divorce. 

According to the news agency, the document indicated that they had reached an agreement through mediation in September, in order to avoid a prolonged battle as has happened with other high-profile couples. Ben and Jennifer, who were previously a couple in the early 2000s, rekindled their romance in 2021, which quickly became serious. The actors married in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas in July 2022 and later celebrated a spectacular wedding in Georgia in front of friends and family on August 20, 2022.

However, this love story that inspired many with second chances did not last long. In person and without a lawyer, Jennifer filed for divorce exactly two years after the Georgia ceremony, citing April 26, 2024, as the separation date with Ben and listing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

The settlement and the Beverly Hills mansion 

Last month, when the divorce settlement of the ex-couple was known, TMZ reported that both Ben and Jennifer "would each leave with what they had individually acquired during the marriage. The money Ben earned from his various film projects is his, and the same applies to what JLo earned during her two years of marriage, and neither will pay spousal support to the other."

It was also revealed that JLo would stop using Affleck as her last name and that she and the actor had also reached an agreement on their Beverly Hills mansion, which they bought in 2023 for more than 60 million dollars and put up for sale in 2024 for 68 million. While at that time the terms were said to be confidential, weeks later it was known that the ex-couple would share the profits from the sale once it was finalized.

Legal documents cited by People noted that the couple would split the final sale price of the house, although the amounts and the percentage each would receive were not specified. On February 18, a moving truck was photographed outside the mansion, sparking suspicions that the property had finally been sold, or that Jennifer had found a new home.
