Every September, world leaders descend on Manhattan for the United Nations, and every September, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands makes the city's sidewalks her personal runway. This year is no exception.
The Dutch queen is back in New York for the UN's High-Level Week and the 81st session of the General Assembly, and while her schedule is strictly business, her wardrobe has been anything but predictable.

It's the kind of dress that works overtime. Polished enough for a wedding outfit, relaxed enough for the office, it defines the waist with a matching tie belt and has the easy elegance of a true wardrobe staple. What keeps it from feeling too buttoned-up are the sleeves: they open at the sides and drape around the shoulders, adding just enough movement to steer clear of anything severe.

Then came the accessories. Rather than match her blue dress, Máxima deliberately went the other way, pairing it with red slingback pumps. The shoes are also by Natan, in a style called the Marmo, which the queen first wore on June 5, 2026. She owns the same design in pale pink too, which she debuted on September 17.
It's a telling choice for a royal known for her love of colorful head-to-toe monochrome.
Máxima has long leaned on single-color looks as a reliable win, but on this New York trip, she appears to be in the mood to experiment. A couple of days earlier, she combined pink and red, two shades that clash on paper yet complement each other in practice.

The result is proof that a working wardrobe doesn't have to play it safe. Even in the most institutional of settings, Máxima knows how to leave an impression, and this week, it took nothing more than a blue dress and a pair of very unexpected pair of red shoes.
