Princess Astrid passed away earlier this month, concluding a long legacy of service for the House of Glücksburg. Her death took place two days after the death of her younger brother, King Harald of Norway, effectively ending an era for the royal family of Norway.

Wilma and Princess Astrid's partnership
Wilma was adopted by the Princess in 2022, becoming a fixture in Astrid's daily life. Princess Astrid has long been a dog lover, and acquired Wilma after losing Tarzan, another dear rescue.
© Getty ImagesWilma was such a key part of Astrid's life that she was featured in the bio on the royal website: “Princess Astrid is rarely seen without her dog, Wilma. Dogs have been a cherished part of her life from an early age — she received her first from her parents on her second birthday.”
She came into the Princess' life in an advanced age, after her previous owner had fallen ill, with Wilma being taken to a shelter. She was rescued by the Princess, who reportedly visited her a couple of times before adopting her fully.

The royal house hasn't shared a plan for Wilma, but Astrid had five kids. It's very likely that one of them could take her and care for her through the rest of her life.
The rescue center of Solplassen, which initially connected Wilma with Princess Astrid, also said that they would be happy to take Wilma back if no one else wants to take her. The founder of the center, Marianne Oyen, spoke to the Norwegian outlet Se og Hor, and provided some words of reassurance.
Whatever decision the royal house makes, Wilma will be cared for.
