Prince Andrew faces pivotal week as court appearance coincides with possible loss of one of his last honors

The former Prince Andrew is once again making headlines as he prepares to give evidence in court this week while also facing the possible loss of one of the last honorary distinctions he still holds.

The Duke of York, who now lives largely out of the public eye at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate, has remained under intense scrutiny following the fallout from his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Earlier this year, King Charles III stripped him of his remaining royal titles and patronages, leaving Andrew living as a private citizen.

Prince Andrew to give evidence in threatening incident case:

On July 29, Prince Andrew is expected to appear via video link before Westminster Magistrates' Court in connection with an alleged threatening incident that took place in early May.

According to court documents, Andrew was walking his dogs near Marsh Farm when he was allegedly confronted by a hooded man who reportedly ran toward him while shouting. Authorities later identified the defendant as 39-year-old Alex Jenkinson, who has since been charged.

Andrew is expected to provide his account of the events remotely. Pending the outcome of the hearing, the defendant remains subject to strict bail conditions that prohibit him from contacting Andrew directly or indirectly, entering the county of Norfolk, or coming within 500 meters of several royal residences, including Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Balmoral Castle and Highgrove.

One of his last honorary distinctions could soon be revoked:

Beyond the court proceedings, Andrew is also facing the possible loss of one of the few honorary positions he still retains, his status as an Honorary Freeman of the City of London, a distinction inherited from his father, Prince Philip.

The City of London Corporation previously asked Andrew to voluntarily relinquish the honor, but officials say they received no response. According to reports, the Corporation has now drafted legal proposals aimed at creating a modern process for removing honorary freedoms after concluding that the current mechanism is outdated and legally inadequate.

Officials have indicated that new legislation would need to be approved before any formal action could move forward. The legal framework is not expected to be finalized before October.

Council leaders have described the review as a significant constitutional undertaking designed to ensure any future process is legally sound before elected officials decide whether Andrew's honorary distinction should be withdrawn.

Separately, reports in the British press have fueled speculation about tensions within the York family.

According to Closer magazine, Princess Eugenie, who is reportedly expecting her third child, has allegedly asked both Andrew and Sarah Ferguson to delay meeting their new grandchild until after the family has returned home from the hospital.

The reported request is said to be intended to minimize media attention during what is expected to be a private moment for Eugenie and her growing family. Neither Princess Eugenie nor Buckingham Palace has publicly commented on the reports.
