Europe's royal families have been showing up to support their national teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. King Felipe VI has cheered on Spain, while King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima attended a match with their youngest daughter, Princess Ariane. Meanwhile, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus went viral for joining fans in the traditional Viking row celebration to support Norway. Now it was Sweden's turn. Prince Daniel traveled to New Jersey with his 10-year-old son, Prince Oscar, to watch Sweden take on France in the Round of 32.

Sweden's World Cup run came to an end on Tuesday after a 3-0 loss to France at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey. France dominated the match, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice and leading his team to the Round of 16.
Daniel and Oscar watched the game from the stands, with the young prince wearing Sweden's national team jersey. Father and son posed together on the sidelines before kickoff.
How Prince Daniel and Prince Oscar followed Sweden's World Cup campaign
Before the match, Daniel shared his thoughts with Swedish royal magazine Svensk Dam, praising the national team. "I was at the match against Poland when we qualified for the World Cup, and we played very methodically. I feel like we're building something really special. One win and one draw, we have to be happy with that so far."
He also congratulated Norway on its impressive tournament and spoke about sharing his love of soccer with Oscar. "Oscar and I watch a lot of matches together, both Sweden's games and those of other countries," he said.
This time, they had the chance to experience the action in person.
Sweden's World Cup comes to an end
Unfortunately for Sweden, royal support wasn't enough to change the outcome as France cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory.
Daniel and Oscar's appearance at the World Cup surprised many royal watchers, especially after the Swedish royal household had previously indicated that the family would not be traveling to the United States.
The pair was accompanied by an official Swedish delegation that included Sweden's ambassador to the United States, Urban Ahlin, along with Consuls General Erik Ullenhag of New York and Anna Hammarlund Blixt of Texas.
Why did Prince Daniel travel with Oscar?
Daniel's appearance alongside Oscar was more than a father-and-son outing at a soccer match. Their visit highlighted the close bond they share while also giving the young prince a chance to represent Sweden on an international stage, even as the national team's World Cup journey came to an end.
