Queen Camilla is in the spotlight after a perfectly timed photograph. Yesterday, she supported King Charles in one of the most elegant and regal occasions for British royalty and government: the opening of British Parliament. In a speech to the House of Lords, the King outlined some of the government's lawmaking plans for the year. It was all grand and majestic, but what we can't stop thinking about is this photo of Queen Camilla.
The image shows King Charles and Queen Camilla leaving the Palace of Westminster after the State Opening of Parliament. The photographer captured a perfectly timed image, showing Queen Camilla walking down the stairs ahead of the King, in her regal white outfit and matching tiara.
While she wasn't running, the angle of the image gives her that effect, highlighting her windswept hair, her silver accessories, and her hands holding on to the fabric of her white gown.
"Queen Camilla’s ‘Cinderella moment’ as she takes off down the staircase ahead of him is the perfect depiction of today’s event," wrote Marie Claire. "The Queen is ready to carry on with her day, while King Charles still feels the weight of the occasion."
The opening of Parliament is a historic occasion, having the King or Queen presenting the British government's plans for the year, with the government crafting the speech and the monarch serving as their speaker and representative. This year, the tradition and pageantry were overshadowed by scandals within parliament, with there being rumors of representatives in positions of leadership launching their own campaigns to oust Prime Minister Kier Starmer.
More details about the historic occasion
The King and Queen were adorned with key British regalia at the historic occasion. The pair arrived at Parliament in a horse-drawn carriage, specifically the Irish State Coach, which has been used on numerous occasions.
For the ceremony, the King wore the Imperial State Crown. It's an item that he wore for the first time during his coronation. The headpiece dates back to 1937, when it was used for the coronation of King George IV.
In the case of Queen Camilla, she wore the Diamond Diadem, also known as the George IV State Diadem. It's an item with an incredible lineage, worn by every British queen, including Queen Adelaide, Queen Victoria, Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, the Queen Mother, and Queen Elizabeth.
