The Prince and Princess of Wales are going through one of the sweetest and most serene moments of their lives. Following their 15th wedding anniversary, William and Kate have shared some exciting news with the world, welcoming a new family member who is likely to increase their activity levels through the Windsor gardens.
Meet Otto
In a photo shared on Kensington Palace's official Instagram, the family introduced their adorable new dog, Otto, a Cocker Spaniel. While this is Otto's official welcome post, the couple had previously shared a photo of him in their 15th anniversary celebratory post, showing him alongside William, Kate, George, Charlotte, Louis, and Orla, the family's five-year-old Cocker Spaniel.
"Welcome to the family, Otto! 1 today," reads the post, accompanied by a stunning photo of the pup and some celebratory emojis. Otto is one of Orla's puppies. As reported by HOLA! Spain, Orla gave birth to four puppies last May.
Kate's hint earlier this year
This past February, Kate revealed the newest addition to the family during a visit to a Welsh woollen mill. When asked about the ages of their dogs, she replied: "So we've got a little puppy, he's only eight months, and Orla's five," reported our sister website, HELLO.
The dog's name had been kept private, with the family revealing it only as they celebrated his first birthday, serving as his official introduction to the world.
A blue-blooded Cocker Spaniel
Otto is a Cocker Spaniel from a lineage of Working Cockers, which differ in key ways from dogs that participate in dog shows and competitions. Otto is likely more athletic, agile, and robust, with his breed known for dogs that can track and handle tougher terrain and landscapes. His fur is a lovely chocolate color, one that highlights beautifully on his ears, the breed's most widely recognized feature.
As a one-year-old pup, Otto is at the peak of his energy, making him a great companion for the family's children.
Remembering Lupo, the family's first dog
Kate and William lost Lupo in 2020, their first dog and a wedding present from James Middleton. William reflected on the loss during an appearance on The Reluctant Traveler, telling host Eugene Levy: "[Orla's] actually the niece of our other dog, Lupo, who sadly we lost in lockdown."
When Levy asked if the family had been present, William said, "Yeah, we were all there, sadly. It was very sad."
Orla has been a wonderful addition to the family, accompanying William to professional commitments and events, including polo matches. Otto is likely to follow in her footsteps as a loyal companion.
