Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr just returned from one of those transformative trips that truly changes a person’s outlook. She recently visited Bhutan, the small and secluded Himalayan kingdom nestled between India and China, famously known as the happiest country in the world.

Kerr, one of the most recognizable Victoria’s Secret "Angels" to ever achieve international stardom, has worked with powerhouse fashion houses like Dior, Chanel, and Prada. During her visit to this deeply spiritual nation, she had an unexpected meeting with its queen, Jetsun Pema, often called the "Kate Middleton of the Himalayas" for her beauty and signature style.

A Royal Connection

The top model shared several photos from the trip, including a selfie with the "Dragon Queen." While it is unclear if Kerr and Jetsun Pema had met previously or if this was their first introduction, their chemistry is undeniable. The meeting appeared to bypass strict protocol in favor of a relaxed atmosphere, looking more like a gathering of lifelong friends.

In the photo, the Queen, dressed in traditional Bhutanese attire, leans her head slightly against the model’s. Kerr, who took the photo, looks impeccable in a white jacket. Based on the background, the encounter likely took place in a drawing room within the Royal Palace

The model also shared images of traditional dances, visits to temples and sacred sites, and the country’s lush scenery, including waterfalls and breathtaking mountains. "Still soaking in the magic of this trip," Kerr wrote.

From Top Model to Wellness Entrepreneur

Miranda Kerr transitioned from a Victoria’s Secret Angel to a pioneer in the lifestyle industry, focusing on organic and sustainable products. She is the founder of Kora Organics, which she launched in 2009, long before the trend went mainstream. She was previously married to actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she has a son, and is currently married to Evan Spiegel, the founder of Snap Inc. She has several children and maintains a relatively private personal life.

Jetsun Pema is married to the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, known as the "Dragon King." Together they have three children, the Dragon Princes: Jigme Namgyel, the 10-year-old heir to the throne; Jigme Ugyen, age 5; and little Sonam Yangden, who is two years old.

A Modern Monarchy

Jetsun Pema has served as the Queen Consort of Bhutan since her marriage to the monarch on October 13, 2011. She comes from a family with noble roots but no direct aristocratic title. Her father was a pilot, and the grandson of a regional governor, and her mother descends from one of the country's oldest noble families.

The couple met when she was 7, and he was 17. Their relationship solidified after she completed her studies in International Relations and Psychology in London. She is multilingual, speaking several languages, including English and Hindi.

As Queen, Jetsun has modernized the image of the Bhutanese monarchy, utilizing social media to connect with her people. Her fresh, approachable style has made her incredibly popular within the kingdom. Despite her discretion, she has become an influential figure and is deeply beloved by her citizens. Notably, she influenced her husband to renounce polygamy, a common practice in the country's monarchy, establishing a monogamous and exemplary relationship. The Royal Family resides in the Samteling and Lingkana palaces.
